Open Water (2003)
You'll like this movie.........if you get scared too easily
Don't expect a good story. Don't expect any actions. By watching the trailers, you will know that the movie producers are trying to make a film of terror and fright...However, this is movie is actually less scary than The Scary Movie. Yes there are sharks...but they are just there to swim beside people... If you expect this movie to be like Jaws or Deep Blue Sea, don't watch it.
Come to think of it, this movie has no point...it's kind of like a home movie, recording the last 24 hours of a couple, floating on the sea, being scared, supporting each other, blaming each other, and die. Certainly not what I intended to PAY to watch.
Sharks appeared pretty often, but each time the background music directs you to think it's getting very dangerous but then....nothing happened, everything was calm again. This repeatd several times which annoys me eventually. Come on, just start biting!!! Even in the end the man died, he did not die because of sharks ate him. He died then the sharks ate him. I wish I was sleepy so that I could sleep through the movie. But I wasn't sleepy, so it was a very painful time.
From time to time, the movie shows clips of people on the land enjoying their time. But these clips are totally meaningless. I think they are there just to make this movie long enough to be shown in the cinemas.
Tho the movie is based on true events (so the trailer says), any other made up parts seem pretty stupid to me. The plot is logically incorrect. The small tour boat captain mis-counted 2 people? So many sharks around the couple, but only one shark took a small bite at the man? While he was bleeding, all the sharks around them were just swimming around them?
Image quality is pretty bad. The whole film looked blueish, looks like someone forgot to set the white balance. The editing is really bad too. For example, near the end of the movie, rescue team flying on planes and helicopters looking down at the sea, the water is bright green, obviously a sunny day. But when the camera is back onto the lead actors, it is a quite cloudy day and the sea is grayish blue.
Overall, although this movie is relatively short, but once you start watching, you'll wish it is even shorter. Bring a pillow, you may use it.
The best part was after the movie, when we make lots of fun of the girl who asked us to watch this movie.
1/10
Acts of Betrayal (1997)
Just annoying
For a woman on the run for her life, she sure is a big mouth. The film makers were trying to make this character funny, but instead, it was just annoying.
But hey, it's movie, you can make it as unrealistic as you wish...
