Nunmuleui yeowang (2024)
Good series but lot of moronic moments
I really enjoyed the series. The main leads had great chemistry and the rest of the cast was excellent too. As always, this is a K-Drama and it seems all the directors goes to the same school for directing and storytelling. They love to reuse the grabbing of the wrist/arm to get the girl's attention. They use 5-10 camera angles saving someone from falling. They have the "deer in the headlights" reaction when being kiss or hug. They have drivers that never slow down when someone is standing in the middle of the crosswalk. And the directors love to have someone stop in the middle of the crosswalk to chat. I do want to point out some "bulging eyes, hands to the head" WTF moments. I know some of these examples is probably to add suspense and push the narrative forward, but...!? When the main villain has the rifle pointed to Baek and Hong, after the police told him to drop the weapon and he started to raise the rifle, they should have shot him! And even when he shoots them, the police doesn't do anything and actually gave him time to reload his rifle before opening fire?? The worst moment is the chairman not questioning the clause in the contract! If the Hongs has a scandal, all shares and interest goes to the villain?? Only Baek said that the clause should've been taken out. I guess the writer of the show wanted us to believe that the Hongs are idiots and morons. Like I said, the directors must all use the same manual when creating these moments and scenes. Ahhhh, but that's why we love watching K-drama/romcom because of these cheesy and head scratching sequences! Overall, Queen of Tears was a fun and very romantic series. I highly recommend it!
Destined with You (2023)
Enjoyable with a powerful romantic ending
Like most typical K-dramedies, we have the rich guy and middle class girl falling for each other. To throw a wrench into it, we have another romantic interest to create the stereotypical 3-way conflict. Everything is here in this story- uncomfortable "deer in the headlight look" when being hugged, first time relationships, office scandal, get together, breakup, and back together at the end. There's more but you get the idea. This story reminds me of "This is my 19th life." Because the two leads have history that dates back 200-300 years ago. One of the most powerful moment for me is the flashback to their other lives when the male lead had to kill his lover so she wouldn't be tortured and dismembered by royal guards for using her shaman magic. The shot of her eyes and expression when she's dying as Rowoon (male lead) holds her and is crying uncontrollable. Add the emotional music score, it can turn anyone into a balling fool. Her acting was superb as with the whole cast. A worthy Korean dramedy/romance that's worthy as any of the best that's out. I totally recommend this series.
Gaet-na-eul cha-cha-cha (2021)
Episode 15 ruined it for me
When Du sik took the blame for the moron of a security guard pissed me off. He told him to talk to him and invest on a certain fund but instead he spoke to someone else that got him into another fund. And then we find out he used the deposit of his house and took out a loan to invest...?! Why go back to Du Sik?? Go to the person who made the investment for him! Du Sik also gave all his money to the wife when he didn't have to and she blamed him when her husband is to blame! And don't get me started on his friends death because he was driving like a maniac and got himself killed! And his wife blame Du Sik because her husband is the one who drove the car like he was on a race track?? The writers wrote it as how evil they are to blame someone else's fault and not take responsibility for their moronic mindset!
Ragnarok (2020)
Weak gods, plastic hammer
I've read a lot of Norse mythology and these are the weakest gods that has been interpreted into a series. Is it the budget? I'm talking about the 3rd season. Wotan (Odin) the king of the gods?? Don't make me laugh. And don't get me started on that paper hammer. In old Norse mythology isn't the hammer supposed to be so heavy that even with Thor's great strength, he needs his belt of strength AND his iron gloves because it was so hot to handle! Everyone from baby Huey to my great grandfather can pick it up and take off with it. Overall, I think the actors are fantastic! Their acting are superb and it makes up for the weak gods.
Aneun Waipeu (2018)
Best ending for K-Drama/Comedy!
After a couple of dozen Korean series, this is by far my favorite with the most satisfying ending! The pacing wasn't bad. It kept me wanting more! The characters were all like able. After going back in time to get the woman he really wanted, he quickly finds out that she's not the perfect girl he thought she was. He's your typical wealthy woman that has the snobby side to her. I'm not saying that all wealthy women acts like her, but I would say a lot of them are. I knew that the way he was treating his original wife was not becoming a good husband as he was totally neglecting her and blaming her for everything going wrong with their marriage. The new version of his original wife was more independent and grew to be a fun and outgoing. Was it a perfect series? No. There are little things in the series that made me question the writer and director's thinking and storytelling. I can't name all of them, but here's a few- 1) they have a habit of leaving their car right in the middle of traffic because they need to get somewhere quick?? That does not make sense to me. 2) Before the original wife went back in time, how did she even know where to go to get there? The mother did not tell her. She just knew where to go and what the coin was for? The husband found it because he was kind of lost. He got to the toll booth by accident. I went back to look for answers but there was none. 3) Near the end of the series, another car arrives at the toll booth. Who was this? I thought maybe someone else was going to ruin or changed their finally perfect union?? The series end with no answers to the new mysterious car that went through. Those are some of the holes that made me scratch my head on "WTF?" Overall, it was my favorite K-series. A great soundtrack. Great cast. AND the most satisfying ending for the couple of dozen I've seen so far! When the husband was given his promotion gift from his wife...I jumped for joy just as much as he did! I give it 10/10 (even the questionable holes I mentioned) because it came full circle with the most positive results! Totally recommend it! American series wish they can write something like this!
Yeonmo: Episode #1.13 (2021)
"OMG! You're a man??"
The royal tudor is a moron and act's surprised that the prince is a woman. The filmmakers did nothing to even try to disguise Attorney Woo! Here's the dilemma, the royal Tudor fell in love with the "manly" prince. Does he get disappointed when the prince turns out to be a woman?? Oh, the most annoying thing about this series is the same love song they keep playing every time they stare into each others eyes! C'mon! How can anyone be fooled by Attorney Woo's feminine features?? Every man in the series are a head taller than the Attorney Woo! This series was a waste of time and makes us fans feel like idiots.
