Game of Death (1978)
Oh dear. Bruce is a legend. This film is not. DVD is great though.
I recently bought the DVD - Game of Death (Special Edition) which features 3hrs of bonus footage. Release in 93 it features the original film which is poor (I gave it 4/10) but shows 40+ minutes of Bruce Lee in action in the Pagoda.
What is clear from this is that Game of Death as Bruce Lee wanted would have
been a totally different film. Instead of one man (Bruce) fighting his way up the pagoda, there are 3. Bruce demonstrates the versatility of his fighting method against a series of exponents in his unique style. Any fan of martial arts will find this footage riveting. Also on the DVD are interviews with Dan Inosanto, the stick and nunchak
exponent, and George Lazenby, plus bios of the other characters in the pagoda. Dan Inosanto also gives a Jeet Kune Do clinic.
The Supergrass (1985)
Not the best the Comic Strip did
The Comic Strip featured actors from 'The Young One's' - a student based sitcom from the 80's. Comic Strip features included parodies of westerns, 'The famous 5', and The Professionals - all a lot funnier than this. Having said that Alexei Sayle puts in a good turn as a traffic cop with ambition and the soundtrack features great music from the era. 5/10
Twilight Zone: The Movie (1983)
Excellent 4th segment, if you can wait that long
This was the first time I saw John Lithgow and he's brilliant in the best segment of this film. I've recorded this segment but not the others, need I say more? The bit at the start with Dan Ackroyd and Albert Brooks (an underused but excellent actor) is also good, but the amount of talent involved and the result leaves you short. 5/10
Secret Paris (2000)
Adult Art Entertainment with emphasis on Art
I bought this on the strength of the fantastic looking european women, Zdenka & Regina Hall who star in this film.
However, what lets this film down is the way the film is put together. You are presented with a sequence of unrelated images which appear on screen for between 2 and 4 seconds. This continues all the way through the film. This quickly bugged me and I found myself fast-forwarding through most of the film. There is no dialogue, so no plot to speak of, just a series of these 'dreamlike' sequences.
The women are sexy but the constant jump cutting spoiled the experience for me. Also, several clips are in black and white to add to the 'art' content - something I hate as I have a colour TV!
The DVD I bought also features a couple of vignettes, but these are done in similar style, so I didn't enjoy them either.
Overall, less satisfying than Hidden Obsessions starring Janine which has a storyline.
