Voir (2021)
David Fincher produced perspectives from new voices and old "friends".
Didn't know much about this when looking through new Netflix content. Watching episode one, I enjoyed a Cinephile's musings, coupled with familiarity and shared experiences, such as the thrill of watching Jaws as a young girl. My interest picked up and I became tachycardia when in episode two I suddenly recognized a familiar voice... Could it be? Yes it could... TONY ZHAO!! From the still terrific "Every Frame a Painting" webseries along with his equally talented partner and co-creator of EFAP Taylor Ramos (who is a also a skilled animator), they now helm a new series continuing dialogue on cinema while also narrating two episodes, spanning 6 separate segments. An enjoyable and informative series of video essays on wide ranging topics. The topics are not always ones familiar to me, and the opinions differ from mine, which is why I enjoyed this so much--opens up my internal dialogue a bit and provides me with wider perspective.
Dinner Club (2021)
Deeper, more involved than Tucci, and just as delicious!
Wonderful to watch, great soundtrack, delicious food and gorgeous travel through land and sea of Italia.. . Whether or not you are Paisan, you will get pulled into each episode and be treated to a front row seat on this grand adventure. The subtitles will help you pick up a few words and phrases along the way but these few episodes are a great way to get out and explore without leaving the house! Bravissimo!
The Old Man & the Gun (2018)
Redford Rides Again...
I have watched him for decades, since I was a little girl, and though his basic acting methods have not changed much, he has a more thoughtful, slower reflective side not seen in his younger years. This is a careful character study with authentic period details and rich cinematography, a bit of a throw-back to a different type of film experience. The soft, quieter pace isn't for everyone, but seeing Redford and Spacek is a treat as they have great chemistry together. And watching the Sundance Kid on a horse again, well, that was icing on the cake!
