Deadly Little Secrets (2002)
Wheeee...
If you like Dina Meyer or fantasize about semi-hot girl on girl action(but avoid outright porn) than you'll enjoy this movie as a rental. The plot is predictable, the editing shoddy at best, and all around it's not that gripping. And it has its moments of blazing stupidity.
This is B through and through. Dina Meyer's acting is great, not excellent, but great. The FBI guys leave much to be desired, and the male lead doesn't really make you care. The villian is actually rather well portrayed, but not all that scary.
Oh, and why oh why does the movie insist on calling an average(At best) looking woman pretty? Did she sleep with the writers? It's all anyone ever says about her in the flick.
Federal Protection (2002)
Enjoyable fluff
The plot was silly, the husband was silly, some scenes were silly, but it fun to watch. Personally I didn't really care about the main story arc, but the secondary one was fun. One thing about the movie is that it left me wondering what in the world did girls see in the husband?
Pretty much everything involving the mafiosos was enjoyable, especially the park scene. I might rent the movie again just for them. If you are looking for something to kill some time while enjoying a brew, this is a good choice.
Blind Side (1993)
Waste of time
Another movie I watched in my Mariska Hargitay run. I highly regretted watching this. It was a waste of the $2.13 it cost to rent it. Direction was terrible. The camera angles tried to be dramatic and add to the tension, but it failed miserably and came across as the work of a child. One scene is as badly shot as the worst amatuer porn flick. Acting is acceptable, but can't overcome the hideous directing, writing, and fashion. The ending scene is laughable and cliche. After the first half hour I ended up fast forwarding through a good portion of the movie, only watching the scenes that helped to move the(pathetic) plot forward or that featured something eye-catching. Let's not even get into the plot holes and hanging threads.
Stay away from this. Zombie flicks are more enjoyable.
The Perfect Weapon (1991)
Fun little time waster
Personally, I watched this movie(video version) to see some of Hargitay's earlier stuff. Very disappointed in that respect. She does little more than stare at Speakman's character and smile at him while letting him into the dojo at the end. I understand the TV original actually had her as more than just window dressing and made their final scene together not so, well, strange and out of place. Makes me wonder why the heck her other scenes were cut out. Especially considering she's really the only female(other than her younger self) at all featured in the movie.
A few small problems. First, I realize Asian actors and actresses are hard to come by, but it was a little annoying to see most of the main mafioso members were actors I have seen playing Chinese AND Japanese characters before. Secondly, they insist the mafiosos are Korean yet pepper in Japanese terms. Third, it always seemed to me that right before a fight, or during a drill Speakman would suck his gut in to make himself seem more trim.
I did like the fact that Speakman's character got hurt. It was a refreshing change from most martial arts action flicks. In the end, I think this is a fun little way to pass the time, but not really something to add to one's collection.
