The Pacific (2010)
Not all battlefields doesn't mean all rubbish
A lot of other reviews have given me the impression that people expected The Pacific series to be all blood guts and violence... This is not the case, so if you want to go and watch a war film or war drama where everyone dies and no significance is given then The Pacific is not the film for you! At the moment, I am waiting for the 4th episode to be released - I'm dying to see what happens. A lot of the series is so do with the soldiers themselves and their service, so yes there are a few gun slinger scenes for those who want violence but the series also covers how the soldiers live outside of the war zone. The series covers the soldiers, the family and friends of the soldiers. I actually prefer this new series to the Band of Brothers as the main characters have more than just the battlefield side as well as being shown as more human/mortal (which you will notice if you compare episode 1 to 2).
The camera work and photography is very similar to the Band of Brothers series if no the same (however, one would expect this after noticing that the production and film team is nearly exactly the same as Band of Brothers). The music is similar to the dramatic music in the Band of Brothers, i would like to say its the same but i haven't compared the two opening tunes.
Its definitely worth a watch! Even if its just to figure out if you like it or not!
Bekushiru: 2077 Nihon sakoku (2007)
Good for genre in question.
From what i can see in most of the negative comments. it is like most film critics. the comments are being made with very little, if NO prior experience to this group of specialist animation.
Most of the "vexille" story line has been insinuated in the Appleseed series. if you watch the Appleseed films and read a couple of the early comics, you will have the prior knowledge to fill in the gaps in this "weak story".
The way this film has been produced is stereotypical to Masamune Shirow's writing and i would assume it is an impression of Shinji Aramaki's and John Woo's directing.
however i'd agree that this film is not for those who are new to Japanese animation as a lot of this is too close to home and yet too unbelievable.
