Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954)
A Great Blast from the Past!
I've probably watched this musical 20 times, at least! And I just decided to pull out some of my old DVDs and see what I got, and there it was it's all she wrote...
i've probably watched this musical 20 times, at least! And I just decided to pull out some of my old DVDs and see what I got, and there it was it's all she wrote... Very good quality music and scenery. Awesome quality musical brings a smile to my face every time... just good musical talent and fun!!!
Not a classic tale, it's a different time, a different way of life that very few of the living have experienced, but have heard stories of such things! I wanted some good, clean, actual entertainment. ..something they don't seem to want to make anymore!!! You know - actual entertainment without cursing, killing, sex, and/or drugs anymore...of course there was a little girl-napping going on...
See for yourself, and enjoy!
Up in Smoke (1978)
Hilarious & silly & totally Fun!!!
This movie is silly & hilarious! A few parts are totally unbelievable, but funny as all get out! This movie is so funny, and I've watched it many times!
Only one thing I'd remove from the movie - the scene in the kitchen where Chong is playing with some Ajax like it were cocaine and this chick comes in , pulls out of straw, and snorts it all down... then she makes funny noises/faces, BUT doesn't die!
Some stupid person may think it could be a funny joke, however it is lethal in real life!
Mr. Church (2016)
Pleasantly Surprisingly
I've watched many Eddie Murphy movies and loved the majority of them; but was pleasantly surprised with Mr. Church. This was a whole other kind of role I hadn't seen Eddie Murphy play, and he portrayed the character perfectly. I sort of figured it would be a comedy (as most of his movies have a good bit of comedy in them), but it took me by surprise...and I loved it. It touched all the bases of a really good movie - all the emotions a movie must touch upon, to be a great movie (i.e. laughter, tears, drama, etc...) and I will likely watch it more than once! I will be surprised if it doesn't win an Oscar, Golden Globe, Actor's Guild award or something. The supporting actors/actresses also did wonderful jobs convincing me of their role. I enjoyed watching the movie and will recommend it to my friends.
Hitch (2005)
It's refreshing to think there are men who care enough to go the length...
It's refreshing to think there are men who care enough to go the length...to really get to know a woman -- not just string her along! This movie shows that some men really admit that they need help (once in awhile) to figure out exactly what to do to get to know a person...the woman of their dreams. It was also refreshing to know that so many of these men have problems because of all the games that have been created by years of games between the sexes! Will Smith does a great job of helping men to get past the fear of being rejected, enough to get past a woman's defense mechanisms...and at the same time was learning that he had to overcome these same traps. Making mistakes and admitting that you are human is half the battle in life -- so take the chance, to win! This was a really good movie and we have watched it 6 times -- so far -- and will probably watch it again.
Jersey Girl (2004)
Heartwarming, Funny, Refreshing!!!
This movie was absolutely awesome... Raquel Castro (Affleck's movie daughter) is so sweet, cute, funny, and adorable! Jennifer Lopez had a wonderful role, though it was short lived; what a sad beginning - but it definitely makes a rebound when Affleck & daughter goes to rent some videos and meet the rental girl. Liv Tyler & Ben Affleck look so good together...once again since Armageddon! What a mix! I don't like giving out too much about a movie...so I'll leave it at that. If you haven't seen Jersey Girl...treat yourself to a delightful time. If you ever had dealings with a little girl and her single dad (who devotes his life to her). You won't regret it... Keep an open mind and just let the magic of the movie do it's thing!
Grey's Anatomy (2005)
This show is absolutely wonderful!!!
I absolutely love this show! The characters are full of character and feeling and sense and everything that is in the best shows!!! The story lines are totally believable and there are sad parts, funny parts, intense moments, and refreshing insights...just everything I love in a great show. There are enough surprises to keep you guessing, but enough stability to keep me coming back to watch the next episode. This is truly an absolutely wonderful show! I cannot wait for the next season to begin and my daughter loves it too. All my co-workers love the show too and we watch it and look forward to discussing all the parts the next day at work! This show is irresitable...so if you haven't watched the first season...you should try to rent it or watch the re-runs (if they ever come on again!!!) We (my daughter and I) say - when is it coming back on?!? Now - tomorrow is too late :)
Frequency (2000)
This is an excellent movie that we have watched several times
My family and I have watched this movie at least 10 times and absolutely love it! Excellent story line and acting! Highly recommend this movie - if you like a movie with a twist. This movie had so many twists and turns and surprises, as well as suspense. If you have ever wanted to change something bad that happened in your life - you should watch this movie. Ever choice we make in life has an impact on everything yet to come in our future and this movie points out this in detail. We must be careful of the choices we make, because you never know for sure if it will be for the best...but you have to use your mind and heart and follow their lead. We were given a brain and a heart for a reason and Frequency has all those great pointers - about the choices people make. We are all here for a reason and for such a short time. We may never know the effect we have had on each others lives, but if you stop and think about it, every choice makes a difference - good or bad...so chose carefully! See what I mean in "Frequency"!
The Passion of the Christ (2004)
Excellently done, and so much as I imagined of what happened!
I had heard the story of Jesus so many times and it always made my heart hurt, that human beings could do something so horribly to another human being - let alone our Lord and Savior, who only wanted great things for all of us. I had read the scriptures and even had seen a movie about Jesus Christ's life, when I was very young, but couldn't fathom the extent of unjust treatment, at that time.
This movie really brought home the cruelty that was inflicted on Jesus. I kept watching, because I could not bare to look away and ignore the facts. I felt for Mary, as a mother myself, at the sounds she must have heard as she listened and watched the horrific treatment given to her son, and I felt for her as a mother - how much pain she must have gone through - and how powerless she must have felt!
We owe Jesus everything, and there are people who want to pretend that it was merely a myth! I feel for those who chose to turn there backs and pretend that it never happened, and pretend that Jesus was just a man...May God have mercy on their souls as they are truly clueless and 'they know not what they do'.
May God bless Mel Gibson for reminding us of what Jesus gave us and also may He bless all people who love Jesus Christ and uphold him in their prayers, and may we all recognize and remember the gift He gave us! God bless America.
I feel "The Passion" was very well made and it sickens me that there are people who question the motives behind it, and even question that it happened at all...the same people, probably, who believe that there Jews were not prosecuted by Hitler's army! May God have mercy and open their eyes! I pray that all mankind will see the light and wake up to all that we must do to prepare for the second coming of Jesus Christ.
Bruce Almighty (2003)
I truly loved this movie and want to own it - watch it again
My daughter and I saw this together and enjoyed it very much! I love the way Jim Carey thought he could do God's Job better than God does; then he totally messes up everything. In the process, he learned that "The Job" is not as easy as it looks! Then he finally admitted that he messed up and gave the credit and the job back to God!
We should all try to remember to give the credit where it is due! Absolutely a great movie - and a must see. If you like movies that have serious, sorrow, laughter and joy all in one - you'll like this one!
My Stepmother Is an Alien (1988)
I, and my children, enjoyed this movie - several times!
We rented this movie for the first time when both our children were still at home. Since then, we own a copy and have watched it several times. It is a very entertaining movie and we just love Kim Basinger & Dan Aykroyd. We just watched it again today and realized that Alyson Hannigan & Seth Green (Willow & Oz from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and many other movies) were in this show. That was so amazing to come to that realization. What a blast!!!
Anyway, it's good "Family" entertainment in a world that has seemed to forgotten what that means. Thanks for your time, and give this movie a whirl if you want some good, clean entertainment with a twist...
Harvard Man (2001)
I was so sadly disappointed in this movie - waste of good money!
I rented this movie, because I thought with Sarah Michelle Gellar, Adrian Grenier and Joey Lauren Adams - it would probably be good...but I was so disappointed that they used these talented actresses/actor in such a trashy movie! In my opinion, it was a waste of $4.00
10 Things I Hate About You (1999)
This was such a cute love/hate/love story...
My daughter wanted to rent this, and at 1st I thought, what a dumb movie...but I liked the actress/actor listed - in other things they had done, so we rented it & now own it! It is such a wonderfully cute twist on the 'Taming of the Shrew"...We have watched it so many times = now that we own it!
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997)
I loved the entire series and looked forward to it every week...
My son started watching this, after we watched the movie. The movie was cute, but usually series' that start from movies are a drag (with a few exceptions), so at first I didn't watch it with him - I was so worried that he would start getting into the 'dark side'.
But then I started watching a few episodes with my daughter and got hooked!!! I just love the little quips and sneaky lines that you really have to be watching to catch them. And even though the episodes built on each other, it was so interesting to see what would happen next...what the writers would come up with new & different - and they always did! This series brought much laughter, madness, sadness, hurt, joy and tears - all the emotions that mean it was great!!!
It was so cool watching Buffy, Xander, Willow & Giles all grow in their parts that they played. I so enjoyed how they went through the transistions and though I really thought some things would end a little differently, and others were a little risky (like Willow's alternate life choice) it was done as tastefully as it could be done.
I hated to see this series end, but I know they had to be running out of ways to kill Buffy, or new demons to surprise us with - so All good things have to come to an end.
But I will have to say this...They gave it a fabulous, uplifting ending. I have the first three seasons and intend to get the other 4 seasons as they come out.
I look forward to watching these very talented actors & actresses in future events and to see "Where do they go from here?"
Dragonfly (2002)
I was pleasantly surprised at the drama, suspense of this movie
I wanted to see this when it came out in theaters, but was never able to make it. I bought it on DVD and watched it just today - and was so pleasantly surprised. K.Costner played his part so well, and made me a believer that he was really in grief and reluctant to going on with his life...but then life began again! And Kathy Bates was a great neighbor & friend...the kind I hope I have. Wow, what a terrific movie! You've done it again Kevin!
Erin Brockovich (2000)
Absolutely awesome! The little guy -vs- the big bad lawbreaking company!
I was absolutely taken aback by this movie. Julia Roberts is one of my favorite actresses and she played her part so well! The language was a little bit more than I thought necessary, but I understand that they wanted it to be as much as the true story of Erin Brockovich...so it definitely gave it authenticity. I just love it when the little guy gets a chance to take on the giant - and wins...because it's just the right thing to do!!! I can also really appreciate that Erin taught those stuff shirt lawyers that you don't have to have a degree to be smart and more importantly - often the "degree" clouds your values!
