Call Me Kat: Cat-A-Versary (2021)
Enjoyable and easy viewing
Is it cheesy? Yes. Is it predictable? Yes. Do I love it any less because of these things? Not a chance. I enjoy every minute of every episode and the back and forth between the characters. Mayim is a delight as always and the supporting cast keep up. Hope it returns for a second season.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
Everything I wanted and more
This was the perfect send off to what has been an amazing journey. I laughed, I cried, and I don't know how they managed so much in three hours. The film didn't let up at all and was worth the lack of sleep before work tomorrow (midnight screening and 9am start).
A Star Is Born (2018)
Promising
As far as directorial debut go, cannot fault the style or cinematography and was pleasantly surprised.
What lets this film down is Lady Gaga. I loved the first half of the film but from around the midway point I felt she was merely hired for her vocal to the point that I didn't care about her character as it was quite two dimensional.
Bradley Cooper, on the other hand, was amazing and I wished more time was spent on him and his relationship with his brother.
A few different choices for the 'second act' and it would have been a much better film. Instead I left quite disappointed considering the hype.
The Lovely Bones (2009)
Not as good as the book
For the first time since Twilight, I decided to read the book prior to seeing the film and unfortunately that's where the problems with this film begin. Anyone who has read the book will notice that the time-line is completely different. for example, in the book Susie's mother leaves after her husband attacks Clarissa (not before) and doesn't return until he has suffered a heart attack after arguing with their son, Buckley, who we rarely see. (The heart attack isn't even included in the film.) The majority of the last six or seven chapters with everybody she was at school with growing up is avoided and it skips to Susie's ghost possessing Ruth when she's fully conscious (again a major rewrite as Ruth had been knocked down by Mr Harvey's car and left for dead). There are so many flaws with the film that it would take an age to list them all and considering how much I loved Peter Jackson and co's working of Lord of the Rings, I have to say I was extremely disappointed with his version of the film.
