Frozen (I) (2010)
1/10
One of the laziest excuse for a horror movie I've ever seen
17 December 2010
Warning: Spoilers
OK I don't write often, but if you're thinking of paying to see this film in any form, don't. This is a blatant attempt to make a quick buck off of the cheapest concept ever imagined (think! 3 people stuck for 75 minutes in a chair! and you fill the rest with.... hey! why not play it out at the chair lift entrance!! Yeah! we can finance it ourselves and shoot it in two weeks!!). This brilliant idea is underwritten with some of the most boring filler exposition dialogue ever written (except the exposition is done for 20 minutes in the middle of the film ugh.) and the most unbelievable series of jumping the shark moments one after the other.

Just when you realize that it will take 65 minutes to kill 3 people (which makes it a real exercise in self control to not hit fast forward repeatedly) after a series of silly coincidences not worthy of the worst Stephen King short story, your only hope for entertainment (in this case gore, I suppose?)is squashed but the most laughable make up effects ever. I couldn't seriously get into whatever weak attempt at suspense this movie tries to achieve when I had to look at those frozen eyebrows. I won't mention the protruding bones scene since, although I really tried, I couldn't recognize at all what was shown in the inserts.

I was shocked by the wolves scenes which are ridiculous if you've read about these rather timid animals (just do a research on wolves attacking humans - it's the rarest thing unless rabies are involved and, well, oops they just didn't think of THAT). These are not hyenas folks - they don't act like that towards humans. And they certainly would not feast twice in 12 hours once at night and then again right away in the next day in daylight... Couldn't they find another way to kill the other guy? Apparently not and they couldn't find a way to off the girl either.

And next time you feel cold and lose a mitt, please don't forget to fall asleep with your hand out on a metal bar. (!!?!) Cutting cables? really? Slippery maybe, but cutting? The absolute killer for me was when I understood(thanks to the icky icky soundtrack) that the bottom of the horror, the ultimate suffering, the most inhumane thing that could ever happen would be when our heroine has to wet herself.

A hint about things to come? Icicles forming in a few hours out of nothing and no temperature variation (except maybe from freezing to even colder) all around our featured chair.

A bit of research perhaps, next time you write your ticket to a new car?

Céline (2008 TV Movie)

So many factual errors made this a real pain to watch
6 October 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I understand this is the "American" version of her career, but having been a fan during her early years, I couldn't help but feel insulted by the complete lack of respect towards her French material (which is entirely missing in favor of some new material arranged as if they were rejects from mid 90s recordings) and the people involved in her pre-Unison years. Christopher Neal must be pretty mad that his instrumental work on "Where does my heart beat now" was attributed to David Foster - Neil is quite responsible for the sound that helped Celine breaking in the English market at that time (only one of the Foster tracks off Unison actually made it into single form in Canada and it was the fifth). And who can forget Luc Plamondon before that who agreed to write edgier material for her during her Incognito years but was apparently not worthy of a mention.

Why show them if people don't know them? Well, maybe people would know them if revisionist shows like this would stop rewriting history in favor of household names.

In any case, I'm sure the point was just to make little English girls dream when watching this... but it sure is a slap in the face of the whole French fan-base who carried her to during all these early years.
