Boo (2019)
Clever, Creepy & Courageous!
I was NOT expecting this - in the best way possible. I love how this film navigates real-life challenges in the most surprising way. Kept me intrigued and on my toes the whole time. The acting was great - so natural. The filmmaking was excellent. I loved the choice of music. I loved how the shots were covered. The editing is paced so well & there are some really fun ways in which the film bends time. Any "effects" are the right amount of appropriate for the genre without being cheesy. I'm not usually into scary films, but this one adds enough depth that I truly enjoyed it. Bravo - how fun!! Can't wait to see what's next for this talented filmmaker!!
Turnover (2019)
Sweet, inclusive film
This movie made me smile - I loved the colorful characters - a wide range of diversity represented...the film is well-shot, well acted, and easy to relate to. Very refreshing and a perfect addition to your stay-at-home list.
Before the Dawn (2019)
Well done, scintillating indie
I'm always captivated by power-dynamics in stories - particularly when the person in power is a woman. This well-made indie tracks the complicated relationship of a female teacher and her troubled student. The film is beautifully -shot - I was pleasantly surprised, actually, given the small budget. The performances are honest and compelling. I highly recommend it!
Loners (2019)
Fun & Unique Satire!
I didn't know what to expect from this film, but was delightfully surprised.
The premise is unique - individuals who consider themselves introverts are deemed a threat to society. Why? Because the stories we hear of mass shootings are typically perpetrated by .... "loners."
The cast is quirky and fun.
The concept gets you thinking.
Definitely worth a watch!
Dirty Beautiful (2015)
Surprising Indie
I'm a big fan of relationship dramas and this one is worth the watch. On first glance you might think this is a fluffy rom-com type story, but it actually delves into the reality of toxic relationships. It's relatable and fresh, and the 2 leads deliver strong performances. Check it out!
Purdah (2018)
Beautiful film!
I saw this film at a film festival last year and was so excited to see it available on Amazon! This is a beautiful story featuring a female heroine, which I LOVE! The story itself is compelling & relevant. It's also quite heartbreaking. I HIGHLY recommend it.
The Evil Down the Street (2019)
Worth the watch!
I was pleasantly surprised by this film. I'm not usually into scary movies, but I thoroughly enjoyed this one. I was impressed by the visual aesthetic considering it was likely a limited budget. The story is also compelling because it is supposedly based on real events - creepy!!
Stadium Anthems (2018)
Fun, clever satire
Hooray for movies with strong female characters! This is a clever response to the male-dominated music industry. If you like mockumentaries AND have a raunchy sense of humor, this film is a really fun watch. At first glance this film might seem thin, but actually, it layers in actual depth in terms of character development and theme - should creative media be free? Def worth the watch.
Nothing Really Happens (2018)
Unexpected fun
I wasn't sure what to expect going in, but I was intrigued by the title and poster! This movie is surprising in every way - surreal, funny, dark, off-beat & unique. If you love contemplating the absurdity of life, this is a great watch.
One Step Behind (2015)
Unique & suspenseful Western Thriller
Props to the filmmakers for pulling off a suspenseful, atmospheric, Western thriller - a unique combination of genres! This film keeps you thinking and guessing, which is half the fun. Definitely worth watching.
Karate in Ontario: The Uphill Battle. The Cost of Raising a Champion (2016)
Interesting karate doc
It's always interesting to see stories about overcoming challenges. Karate gives people strength and purpose. I wasn't familiar with any of this history and it gave me inspiration.
Slapped! The Movie (2018)
Fun crass comedy
If you like "bro" humor, this is a really fun movie. A twist on the body exchange trope with lots of laughs. Enjoy!
Craig Quits His Day Job (2016)
Refreshing charmer
How refreshing to stumble upon a light, but heartfelt comedy in this moment in time. Craig Quits His Day Job is an endearing indie with quirky, well-drawn characters. I found the lead actor, Garrett Titlebaum super relatable, with comedy that didn't feel pushed. The whole film has an Office feel, but with its own twists.
Everlasting (2016)
Impactful & compelling thriller
Very dark & compelling thriller. Definitely has a teen angst component. I enjoyed the interesting characters that filled the darker side of this world. Solid performances all around.
Spent (2017)
Fun & unique indie
Fun movie with a very unique tone! As someone who is a sucker for old music / musicals, the film captured me at the start. I love the vintage feel & strong production value. On first glance it might look fluffy, but don't be fooled! There are clever details interwoven throughout. Thumbs up.
