before i say anything, i'm a huge fan of the MGS series, having owned all games. after completing MGS3 which is to date, my favourite game ever, i couldn't wait for MGS4.
A lot of people complain about the amounts of cut scenes. Personally , i love cut scenes in MGS, because the things you most remember , the most memorable moments you most talk about to mates, are all in these cut scenes. even though the games starts of slow, it starts to pick up from act 3. leading up to Eva death was epic, the ' BANG BANG scene was epic, i had to admit , i was worried when playing the first two acts, i didn't have that MGS feel. But the ending of act 3 just blew me away , visually . from act 3 to act 5 the game was truly epic.
now onto the game play. it felt rush. I know that the player has the option to play stealthy or Rambo like, but with the amounts of guns they threw at you , you couldn't help yourself to go out with guns all blazing. they gave you TOO MANY GUNS. that what i enjoyed about previous MGS's. you would only have a tranquilliser, handgun and rifle, so being stealthy was vital to keep enough ammo. the whole game play didn't feel like MGS, the atmosphere was missing something. special with boss battles. there not one specific B&B which you would love going back to beat again. nothing new, unlike the THE END battle on MGS3 But still, i loved playing the game up until the ending. it p***ed me off big time. Big boss should of never come back. his part of the story was complete , we knew why he turned against his own people , we learned it all at the brilliant ending of MGS3. that salute at the grave should of been the last time we show big boss. But no he returns. it was stupid , he was dead enough said, Kojima can't bring him back with a stupid explanation like he gave us. it also seemed that Kojima was having problems trying to end a game at the same level of quality as MGS3 ending as he basically copied it, at the bosses grave. in fact, the ending was so bad that it puts a bad effect on the mgs3 ending which beats this, as in mgs4 the emotions are forced while mgs3 they came freely
