Blades of Glory (2007)
A well executed comedy and worth the price of admission
I had low expectations before seeing this movie. I thought it could be good, but I figured it would be one of those where all of the funny stuff happens in the previews.
I must say that it surpassed my expectations. I thought it had a decent story and a good cast. I respect the fact that it did not have to resort to toilet humor to earn its laughs.
I gave it a 7 out of 10, because I don't normally give silly comedies a higher score. But, I give it a 10 out of 10 for being an entertaining movie and a very funny one at that. This is the kind of movie that you can watch again and again.
Poehler and Arnett make a nice pair. Nelson does well as MacElroy's coach. Nick Swardson is absolutely disturbing as the obsessed fan. And you will never look at a roll of toilet paper the same again.
I definitely recommend this movie and will likely grab a copy of it when it comes out on DVD.
Saw II (2005)
Very well done for a horror movie sequel
This movie is truly disturbing. I think it should have gotten an NC-17 rating. It amazes me what the MPAA will allow in terms of violence, but they readily slap NC-17 on movies with sex or language.
Most of the time you are able to walk away from a movie and say it was just a movie and couldn't happen in real life. The disturbing part of this movie is how plausible the plot could be to someone that is not right in the head. All of the traps/games of torture in the movie could be easily reproduced by any nut.
I think it exposes the hypocrisy that Congress would raise such a stink about video game violence, but you hear no complaints about Saw II? As for the movie, it was very well done and worth seeing to someone who is a fan of smart, crime/horror movies. Be warned it is not for the squeamish.
Chicken Little (2005)
Worth Seeing 3-D version only
Definitely worth seeing, but only if you can see it in 3-D. Went to Disney World in May and the 4 3-D attractions they had were awesome. This reminded me of the 3-D I saw at WDW, only this was a full length movie. I highly recommend seeing this movie if you have never seen a movie in 3-D. This is not your parents' red-blue anaglyph 3-D. It is so much better.
I guarantee you that 3-D is about to take off at the theaters. It is the next evolution in movie watching, and it is just what the theaters need to break out of their slump. Apparently, any CG movie can be converted to 3-D, and I have heard Lucas will be redoing the Star Wars movies in 3-D. Imagine a suspense movie where something occasionally pops out of the screen at you.
In the Chicken Little movie, I saw kids reaching their arms out to try and touch the 3-D images. I saw grown men jump from their seats in parts of this movie.
I give the 3-D version an 8, but I think the regular movie is about a 6. I hope they release the 3-D version at home.
Also, imagine playing XBox 360, PS3, Revolution in 3-D. I think that will soon be a reality, and it's an awesome time to be alive.
Dark Secrets: Inside Bohemian Grove (2000)
Not for beginners
This is one of Alex's earlier films and his skills as a documentary film maker have since improved. Just watch his new one "Martial Law" to see this. So, on a technical level, this movie is very amateurish in skill. However, it is the content of the film that makes it so fascinating. He is the only person to ever successfully infiltrate Bohemian Grove, which makes this an underground cult hit. The problem is that anyone who does not know about secret societies and politics will not understand this film. Start with "Martial Law" and some of Alex's other works, and then watch this film. You will then start to appreciate the hidden camera footage and the significance of what he accomplished. To me, it is disturbing to see world leaders performing mock human sacrifices to Moloch while wearing clan-inspired robes.
911: The Road to Tyranny (2002)
Alex's Second Best Documentary on 9/11
This is an excellent documentary, but his "Martial Law: Rise of the Police State" is much better. It has the benefit of being made a couple of years after this one.
Alex is a true patriot, and we need more people like him. The elite is using fear to further their objectives, but Alex is the one that has them afraid. They are afraid that people are waking up to the truth. Just ask Jim Tucker and Daniel Estulin who infiltrated the Bilderberg meeting this year. The elite is very concerned about the effects the true patriots like Alex are having.
This video goes a lot into the history of elite sponsored terror, such as the OKC bombing and WACO. Alex is trying to expose government corruption, and for that he should be commended.
911: In Plane Site (2004)
See the Director's Cut version
Dave has recently released a director's cut version of this film that is 76 minutes. He adds some footage from OKC. The original version to me left a bit to be desired, and I would have given the original an 8 or 9. The director's cut presents a much stronger case against the official story on 9/11. If you have only seen the original, you should check out the director's cut. To me, this and Alex Jones's "Martial Law: The Rise of the Police State" are the two best documentaries on 9/11.
The reason that I think this is one of the better 9/11 documentaries out there is that they stick to documented video evidence. There is a review on this site that claims that the video is doctored. If this reviewer had taken the time to obtain the PBS "America Rebuilds" documentary, as well as the Naudet brothers video and CNN's America Remembers, you would see that the video is not doctored. I went to a screening of this video and Dave was offering a free copy of the CNN video to anyone who bought the DC of "In Plane Site." The one problem I had watching the original was when they started taking about the pods. Conspiracy theories are easy to dismiss when you can focus on some fringe argument as if it is the main point. The arguments concerning pods and remote control and stand down orders are difficult, if not impossible to prove. To me, the strongest provable argument against the official story is Larry Silverstein's "pull it" quote from "America Rebuilds" concerning WTC7, which was not even mentioned in the 911 Commission report. He admits that the collapse of building 7 was a controlled demolition. Since it takes weeks to wire a building for demolition, how did they do it in just a few hours? People died in this building when it collapsed, so why is Silverstein's comment not viewed as an admission of premeditated murder? Anyway, when viewing the pod evidence in the video, it is important to watch on as big of a TV as possible. I was initially skeptical as mentioned above, but it is very clear when I watched the DVD on a 36" TV with component inputs. You can see both the pod and the flash from four different angles. What it is and why it is there is not the point. The point is that it is not a feature of a commercial plane.
This is a great film by people who love this country and are not trying to profit from tragedy like Michael Moore. We need more people like Dave Von Kleist and Joyce Riley.
