Q-Forced?
2 September 2021
You know that feeling of curiosity when a show only gets ratings on either end of the spectrum? Yeah, me too. So, I watched the first two episodes.

If you are like me: not offended by LGBTQ themes, but neither care too much then Q-Force is only a mediocre show. Just the discourse around a show is not enough to justify its existence. And this is really what Q-Force is. It's meant to either rile up or make people feel morally superior.

Underneath is a cast of OK characters that I don't see developing much depth. I chuckled at some of the jokes, like the Tracy Chapman one in the first episode. Some or many of the jokes I might have missed being not the target audience, YMMV. Story wise it's aimed at young teens I guess? Kind of flashy, fast paced but also kind of flat. Animation is good.

If you want to get riled up or instill a sense of moral superiority, then this might be for you. If you want to kick back on the couch after a long day, then go find something else with a bit more quality. It really isn't bad though, just not good either.

Q-Force will probably run for a couple more seasons if it doubles down on the social issues and then gets discarded on the pile of shows nobody remembers.

Star Trek (2009)
6/10
all in all a solid action movie
6 May 2009
Warning: Spoilers
i've just seen this movie in a German cinema. i'll try to be as objective as i can as a star trek fan.

first of all an apology for bad grammar.

overall its a solid action movie with minor plot problems. acceptable acting from all the protagonists. its impressive how well some roles are filled with people you could actually mistake for younger versions of the original actors.

the special effects are pretty good, you could compare them with transformers1. there is some decent ship to ship combat and also nice large scale effects for example the implosion of a whole planet. so if you don't care that someone jumping out of a shuttle from orbit, diving down through the atmosphere and landing on an 25m² platform doesn't burn up this might be right for you.

and for all the Trekkie's out there: keep your hands off this one!!

don't get me wrong this film really isn't bad but thats not enough. the spirit and the essence of the series and films is gone. for example the protagonists don't even try to communicate with an attacking unidentified vessel. the humanity, diplomacy, solving problems through knowledge and finding a non violent solution to a problem. for me this has always been the essence of star trek but there seems to be nothing left of it.

imagine Spock and kirk fighting hand to hand on the bridge of the enterprise! there is so much chaos in this film so many things that are hard to believe if you know the original series.

there are even cardassian drinks served in a bar on earth! well you could look over that but when i sum up all the small glitches it makes me kind of sad.

so when the romulans destroy Vulcan, by using "rote materie in German, would be red matter in English" something completely undefined. it just exists and is capable of creating black holes. so the romulans drill their way into the core of the planet and after that send some red matter in. this way a black hole is created probably induced due to the heat of the planets core. so why not create that black hole somewhere on the surface? you think: OK the time line can still be restored but no. it actually stays this way. this film sends star trek into an alternate reality rendering all the other series and films obsolete.
