Uncle Art (2019)
Let's start at the basics
1) do not call something nostalgic just because it's old. I've been playing video games since I was born 1977 and a huge amount of games in this documentary are just non-heard of dumb and never became popular, that's another thing about nostalgic It must be something that people can relate to and remember.
2) Don't hire a bunch of Gen Z/millennials to tell us about what is nostalgic about these games and there sound themes. Firstly, none of them were born when these were in arcades and people were experiencing them, secondly there was something very special I personally experienced when hearing the sound of Tron for example when I was overseas living in Kenya and it was the only Western musical theme that you could come across outside of VHS movies that you would play at home. Just because you are a " "video geek" or "gaming geek" doesn't mean you have half the sense to really appreciate and convey what the real experience was like to hear some of these games themes at the time.
That's all I got, keep it real, peace out.
The Hand That Feeds (2021)
Awful
I think this movie was made over the weekend as a student project. The first thing that tipped me off was the agent Reynolds character. The guy who plays it is awful. His actor portfolio is posted all over the web. He must be desperate for work and I can see why. The movie is basically like every other movie made after 2018. Awful cast, mediocre script, lots of expensive cameras to shoot what you can basically shoot on your phone. I don't know why any director, scriptwriter, casting person would think that an opening scene with some guy just yelling is supposed to be scary. They add some kind of Jurassic Park T-Rex yelling sound to him shaking his head and looking like a WWF mania fan. All of you need to get a clue and realize that you need to come to the table with more than just a camera. Where the hell have all the good actors gone. Where have even the mediocre actors gone?
JonBenet's Tricycle (2018)
Hippie creeper steals other people's belongings
Initially I thought the documentary was going to be about a collector who buys nostalgia from high profile murder cases. Instead what I got was a 50-year colorado hippie manchild who tries to document his own boring existence, rubbish artifacts, basically other people's junk. The guy this documentary is based on is just plain creepy. I don't mean that in an interesting way I mean that in a pure child bicycle fetish way. The so-called filmmaker is interviewed through this entire movie by a man who doesn't really add anything to the film other than laugh at the financer's jokes. I think they're jokes. They seem to spend an equal amount of time putting the camera on the man interviewing the filmmaker. It's all quite strange. Very little content, nothing nostalgic or interesting, no shocks or hidden finds, it's all just hype and clickbait. It's pretty much what you would expect given the region it's filmed in (Denver). Basically if you're in the mood for watching a college film project, made by a 50-year-old, who can't decide whether he's a hippie or whether he's a 10-year-old (Yes my nephew has a haircut just like his), oh I give up explaining anymore. It's just depressing to watch. It basically represents everything you think of when you think of the last 4 years. The generation gap, the phoniness, the fake accents, the girl who has a deeper voice than the man she's interviewing. These are just a few of the things that distract from any content this film had an opportunity to share but didn't because lack of a storyline, lack of a plot, just lack of anything interesting to share in this so-called collectors junk collection.
Everything Now (2023)
Zero Plot, Disappointing, and Typical
Shows likes this are often in your face and easy to to disniss this show has failed to demonstrate this topic properly and gave in the fiction as well as for a horrible reflection on the mess from no parties the main smurf and the aliens. This show is a catastrophe and immature in all aspects of bulimia and it's effects mentally and physically. This show has zero plot that make you think once before jumping in confusion there no factors that make this show different from others that I have watched that talk about this same topic nothing now is a show that dry heaves the bulimia and effects that does not only affect your fellow smurf but also your mothers.
Hunt Club (2022)
Theme: Male toxicity.. it's so 2018. Lol
When I decided to watch this film I just looked at the actors and thought okay this can't be horrible. And maybe this film isn't horrible if you think of it in a satire/comedic sort of way.
It has all the regular ingredients for a recipe of male=evil. The first thing the men talk about while they are sitting around the campfire is toxic masculinity. Do guys really talk that way? No. I don't know a single friend who uses the words masculinity, especially while drinking and hanging out da homeboys.
From that point on everything was basically downhill/prescriptive, as you might suspect.
The director of this film must be from some distant galaxy. She has a lot to learn about basic human behavior and frankly, common sense. Guys just don't talk that way and when you use these buzz terms it makes people feel like you're back in 2018 pushing some kind of me-too message. Which by the way is so passe.
The bulk of this film is leading up to the women taking revenge on the unrealistic white male chauvinists cast. I thought it was kind of interesting that the male characters had to explain their background (a few of them worked at Wall Street?). It was just weird that the two guys who worked on Wall Street looked like characters out of Deliverance. I think the writer and director were trying to send a message that it's not just hillbilly males it's your everyday friendly neighborhood male that are toxic too.
The women of course are portrayed as ponds which I kind of feel like that in itself was quite disrespectful. At least give the first two women who were put out for the hunt a fighting chance. No they were as submissive and lamb-like as they could possibly make them I suppose to make the audience feel for them. Which brings me to character development. There is no character development. If you didn't know the actors you would be lost as to who is the person to root for and who is the person to just cringe on.
The script was absolutely awful. I really feel bad for the three actors in this film that had done some good work in the past. I'm referring to the girl from American Beauty, the guy from Starship Troopers, and Mickey Rourke. It's almost as if they were given the script, read the lines, but didn't even know what the film was about.
I guess if you want to take a trip back to 2018 and relive the me too movement, and hate on men, this film would be right up your alley. But if you want a more relaxing evening, like curl up next to your favorite toxic male companion and watch one of the pre 2010 films that will put a smile on your face and a few chuckles between the two of you, this would be my suggestion. Don't forget the popcorn!
The Silent Twins (2022)
From an identical twin
Wow really? This is less about twins and more about two black girls doing that thing. I am an identical twin and If anything twins have the courage and motivation to involve themselves in society and do everything they can to be individuals. This story is complete make-believe. My brother and I grew up in a very twin progressive environment and the last thing we wanted was to be viewed as the same person and identical on all issues. The story as the movie portrays it is kind of a step back for twins and more of a politically correct view of two black girls attempting to overcome obstacles. The bottom line is the movie doesn't show the true obstacles twins face day in and day out. They leverage the label of twins, throw a few colored actors into the mix, and then portray it as a true story about identity. The reality is I love being a twin, and there is nothing more I would love than to be distinctly identified separate from my twin. This is a step back for those of us in the identical twin community. Shame on Amazon for portraying this bogus representation of our community.
What Lies Below (2020)
If they had an Oscar for cringe worthy performance
Cringe worthy would go to Ema Horvath. She plays the dullest teen ever. Her face gestures constantly twitching, halfway smiling, giggling then looking serious then smiling again. All in 8 seconds. Very annoying. And the male character is just creepy. Not just his performance but everything about him is concerning.
Rogue (2007)
Surprisingly Rewarding
Found the movie most pleasing without preconceived hints or expectations of it's outcome or storyline. I appreciate how the end of the movie linked to the beginning. Enough said on the storyline- The actors are very real in character. This film was very well written and with a believable storyline. Has a, "Ghost in the Darkness", truth to it. Very convincing special effects (some of which I could not differentiate from reality) and an extremely compelling ending. Stay for the ending. There are several moments when you think you have the ending figured out but it just doesn't pan out that way. This one is for the library.
