The Hurt Locker (2008)
Absolute Mess
Not to knock this film too much, the bomb disposal scenes are gripping and full of tension, and the camera work is good. But that's it, the rest is a mess! It's directed by Kathryn Bigelow and details the chronological story of a bomb disposal team operating in Iraq with SFC William James (Jeremy Renner), joining as a replacement for the previous disposal expert. Renner's a maverick and loves the job. He doesn't play by the book and that appears to cause tension in the team initially. And this where confusion and disjointed story lines start to evolve? What's up the Iraqi driver standoff with Renner's character whilst he's on his way to defuse a bomb? What is Bigelow trying to suggest with Renner's character in a homo erotic position with his sergeant? And what about his team taking out Iraqi snipers one by one while what's presumably the British SAS run away in fear? Renner's character even takes on the role of detective in his spare time and risks his colleague's life to track some bombers down.
This story has too many "huh, where's the one suppose to go??" factors. Some scenes are long and drawn out, especially some of the more emotional scenes with Bigelow trying to shape Renner's character portraying him as caring and complex. It just doesn't seem to work or is overdone, especially how he relates with his colleagues.
To put a final point, I don't think it's worthy of an Oscar. If you want to watch it, there are some edge of the seat stuff, but the storyline is disjointed, lacking in direction and some bits that are downright unbelievable.
Moon (2009)
Throughly Engaging
When I first heard of this from commentators, it was along on the lines good effort from first time feature director, Duncan Jones, son of David Bowie.
When I did finally come to watch it, this is not a good effort, this is a masterpiece. Not just a good compact script but Sam Rockwell delivering a blistering performance as Sam Bell, a technician living and working in isolation maintaning a Helium 3 mining facility on the moon, with the only real time communication is GERTY (Kevin Spacey), the ROBOT companion. With the help of a bizarre event involving Sam crashing his lunar rover, the truth of his existence dawns upon him as he nears the end of his 3 year contract.
What can I say, this is just a good simple and meaningful storyline. And it does not pay homage to sci-fi flicks of the 70s/80s as Duncan Jones the director explains. It's in a class of it's own. It's amazing the director pulled this off on such a small budget, but perhaps, the lack of money for too many effects gives it the edge.
65 Guy Cream Pie (2005)
Certainly one of the top
It's not surprising to find Ariana, perhaps the most hardcore adult actress of her generation, appearing in the 50 Guy Cream Pie franchise. As with most Ariana's movies, there's no condoms and no plot, just an excuse for this uber hedonist to have intercourse with as many men she can on camera. Whereas most porn girls would flinch, Ariana engages in just about every sex act known to hardcore pornography, with the finale of having every man ejaculate inside her, in all her holes of course.
Ariana certainly doesn't disappoint, a veteran of large gang bangs like the Gang Bang Girl series, this is what she excels at, maintaining the momentum throughout. There are very few starlets that can carry that out. I would give a 10/10 for Ariana, but less for the movie, namely bad editing and bad camera angles.
As for the rest of the DVD, there's some good interviews and extras, and behind the scenes footage. Even having sex can be stressful.
