Neither a bit of honey in this movie nor you should waste your valuable money on it......
13 July 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Heir less industrialist Jaiswal (Prem Chopra) wants to leave his 100 crore-business empire to six beneficiaries chosen from random mobile numbers before he dies. The six of them initially dismissing the 'crank calls' announcing how lucky they were considering it meaningless until circumstance forces them to go and accept their luck. What follows is a senseless, boringly unfunny and pointless drama. What we receive is a muddled and paltry script and boring unwanted below the standard dialogues.

All the actors including the all so reliable Govinda are below par as per their acting is concerned although Hansika Motwani shows some promise in her animated turn as Ashima Kapoor the wannabe film star and soap superstar. Govinda need to shed of some kilos to get into the groove. He is expressionless throughout and the whole lot of other actors including Aftab Shivdasni, Manoj Bajpai, Celina Jaitely and Upen Patel do their part as if forced upon.

The absence of humor in this so-called comedy film makes it quite unbearable to watch. There is hardly any moment, which will even make you give a weary smile. The lone message given through a fashion show is lost between the atrocious story and screenplay.

Director Ganesh Acharya fails once again and goes down further after his debut "Swami". The look alike of Ekta Kapoor and Vijay Mallya couldn't salvage the film though. As if the sultry dance sequences are not enough from the six actors Ganesh puts himself in one of those and the result is awful. It would be a sound advice to Ganesh to forget about the directing part and concentrate on his choreographic stints. He his torn between giving a comedy and a dose of social awakening part and succeeds in none. Honey, we should waste our money on this spice less and tasteless film.

A refreshing treat from the comedy king....
12 July 2009
Warning: Spoilers
"Mere Baap Pehle Aap"is a refreshing treat from the 'Comedy King' Priyadarshan. The film is a wonderful combination of hilarious events and emotional play.It is about sweet relationship between a father and his son,but unlike the familiar ones this one is the other way round. Gaurav(Akshaye Khanna) rules over his father Janardhan Wishvambhar Rane(Paresh Rawal) advising him with "dos and don-ts"and also decides the latter's course of life .He even chides him whenever Rane does any mistake like a small kid.Madhav Mathur(Om Puri) is a pal of Rane who is badly in search of a bride and invites trouble wherever he goes.Story sails smoothly and is a fun ride with comic timings and witty dialog's from all the characters till the interval when Rane meets Anuradha(Shobhana)and his life takes a turn with long past memories rushing in.Sheekha(Genelia D'souza),an old friend of Gourav meets him after long time and along with him helps to unite the two,Anuradha and Rane and falling herself in love with Gaurav in the process.

The second half changes into an emotional phase dealing with love, relations and sacrifice. The film solely revolves and focuses around Akshaye Khanna and Paresh Rawal who were outstanding with their performances.Their chemistry is superb as we had seen in films like Hulchul and Hungama.Rawal is subdued unlike his earlier forms and has fewer dialog's yet his role speak volumes.Akshaye Khanna continues to prove that he is a master at comedies.Ompuri in his new avatar as a go free person will be treat for the audience.Good old Rajpal Yadav is entertaining in the lone scene he appears.Shobhana is good but not up-to the mark.Genelia D'souza is the only weak link in the film lacking the punch in the dialog delivery and her charming smile couldn't overshadow her weak histrionics.Nasserudin Shah in his special appearance as Sheekha's father is perfect as ever in oscillating between a good and a shady character.

Music director Vidyasagar is good at patches thanks to the rocking song "Isq Subhanallah" which has already become a hit.Priyardarshan needs a special mention who has done brilliant job blending comedy and emotions in the right proportion. This film is a not a total comedy flick but backed by good story and screenplay. The director needs kudos for his work. The film is better than many other big budget films released this year. The audience will just love it.

The film with a heart...with some stellar performances...A slice of life..
12 July 2009
First of let me tell this. This story is more than just cricket. One could argue that Iqbal is a clichéd story about the winning of an underdog but let me tell you this is a gem of a film which one could hardly miss. Although the story is predictable it is the presentation and stellar performances from the actors that make it a true winner.Nagesh Kukoonor who is know for his low-budget story-oriented films scores once again with this. The direction is deft and the editing has been pin-point.The cinematography depicting the village scenario has a fresh touch. The story consists of the usual irritating father, caring mother and an ever-supporting sister but the performance have been so real and genuine that you never feel you are seeing a movie. Salim-Sulaiman scores with their background music and the Aashayien is truly inspiring. No unnecessary songs except the background score heighten the reality. It's a story every young person can associate with and can be inspired from. The best part of the movie is the acting of Shreyas Talpade and Nasserudin Shah.Shreyas don't even utter a word but his role speaks volumes.Shah as usual is awesome. The film has lot to teach may it be determination, strong will, focus in life,self-belief and so on...I feel it is the best film to come out of Mukta Arts production. The film may be compared to A Million Dollar Baby but i feel it's better.Hats off to Subhash Ghai for supporting this project.
