Not very good at all
19 May 2024
The producers of this show must think we are really stupid. The story line is really weak and the musical backtrack is a very lame attempt to make the story suspenseful. I am sitting here watching the 5th episode and I can't believe that I'm still wasting my time. I guess I'm hoping that it might get better but I continue to be disappointed. It is incredibly obvious from the beginning that the bad guys are bad when we are supposed to believe that they are the good ones and visa versa. I've seen this kind of thing before and it wasn't good then. I would not recommend this show. It's really just very lame.

This show makes me laugh a lot
16 May 2024
Everyone in this cast is amazing. Every time they speak, you can instantly see the world through their eyes and it's really quick. The various personalities are such characters. My only reservation is for MJ Rodriguez. Unfortunately I feel that she needs more work on her acting because it seems a little "community theatre" compared to the rest of the cast.

I don't know if I've laughed at a series as much as I have this one. It started to look like a typical fish out of water type of deal, and it is, but it's a fabulous point of view where we get to peak behind the curtain of the super rich We can't help but think what we would do with that kind of money. I also love how it confirms what we all think about the superficial super rich and this show gives us a position of us against them, good vs bad. That's fun.

Not a very good start
28 February 2024
I am a Torontonian and I was looking forward to Toronto being a character. The scene from the island was good because it showed people who have Never considered Toronto, what it looks like from it's best side. The local references were good except, the business being at 3 Bay Street, when it was obviously at Front and York.

The cliche Toronto sign at City Hall, Cherry Beach, those placed are fun to see in a favourite TV series.

There were at least 3 references to Muskoka, so I thought maybe we would see that, but nope, it was a dead-end part of the story. Also,,,The Filmore...really? Did you have to ?

The actors, well, as soon as I heard Graff speak I cringed because that is so obviously a put-on accent which no Toronto resident has. It's from "not quite sure where" or maybe just east of that. Non-local viewers are going to think that's what we sound like...we don't.

BUT, I know that these things take time so I will stick with it and hope for better.

Took me back to my childhood
9 February 2024
I am old enough to have seen the original in theatre. It has always been among my favs.

This origin story was just as enchanting. I loved all of the Easter eggs which can only be noticed if you've seen the original more than a couple of times.

Like the original and The Wizard of Oz, strangely, this film starts off in 'dark mode' where everything is dark and dreary. It kind of stays that way until the reveal of the chocolate room. Then it explodes with colour, dance and song. Classic!

I love these types of films that awaken our sense of whimsy and have us harkening back to our childhood.

I just saw it, so I am not going to say more until I watch it for another time and consider things like camera angles and editing which is all about the directors vision, which I also love to consider.

I gave this a 10.

The Holdovers (2023)

This film is now among my favourites.
18 January 2024
I love nostalgia. I was only about 10 during the time this movie was set in, so a lot of it took me back to those days.

I know the feel of this type of film and knew ultimately what would be coming due to the basic formulae of movie production, but the indie film genre is what drew me in and grabbed my attention right away.

The character building was a little unsettling at first due to the number of potential characters, but then, when things settled down to the few, that's when the real intrigue set in.

While there is plenty of reason to feel sadness, I found myself laughing out loud at so many points which endeared me to the characters even more.

The elements of the season, family, mental health, and perspective of peeking behind the curtain of ones life...those things are all things that occupy my mind and never fill me up.

I truly enjoyed this film and now hold it among my favourites.

Terrible
2 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Unless I missed something, this movie is supposed to take place in the future, like 40 yrs ahead but the concept of "remote" control of tech is not something used? Yet, it was, but only when convenient for the story.

I'm not stupid but I get the feeling that this movies thinks I am.

Also, cars have wheels but boats can hover/fly??

This is a typical story of good vs evil with that line being blurred. Throw in a love story for the ages and a child in wolves clothing and you've got something to see, I guess.

I did not like Alison Janey in this role and I especially didn't like to see her get blown up.

The acting was good, the cast was good, the special effects were well done but the over all impression I was left with had me disappointed.

Mildly entertaining but overall, not very good
22 October 2023
This is my opinion, and should be considered as such.

If they were going for a comedy, or even comedic moments, it might have explained some of it, but even on that it would have been a failure.

There were too many (more than one is too many) Jump scares, or worse, misleading ones. None of it made any sense. They just said stuff and I guess we aren't to question it and just take it for their word, even though it was completely ridiculous.

The writing is terrible. The acting was better than the plot and that ain't saying much.

There is no way that a family in mourning would inherit an ABBEY in Europe! That is really amateur. Also, why would they have to live there to fix it up before selling it to make money. If they are so broke, they wouldn't be able to pay for the repairs etc.

Also, if the church had that much history and fight with evil, I doubt that they would ever have let the Abbey fall into private hands...and who left it to someone in their will??? Stupid.

From that moment, I decided not to get invested in the plot, and just sat back to watch a horror show...literally and figuratively.

I was not disapointed.

Go ahead and watch it but be prepared to waste your time.

This is a comedy....right??
1 December 2021
It's so bad that it's good, if you consider it as a comedy thriller. If there weren't some big names attached to it, it would never have been watchable at all. The only reason I watched it was for Julianna Marguelise.

Don't bother
25 November 2021
I suppose this is an "art film" which is fine but even an Art film should be interesting and for me, this wasn't. Kristen Stewart again delivered her typical "angst" performance that she does in every film, except this time with a English accent that I had to use subtitles to understand. Nothing new here, nothing to see here.

Something Important To Watch
15 November 2021
Coming on the heels of the Corona Virus, I watched this show.

What we have all been through has taught us that we are vulnerable to all sorts of pathogens.

The one thing that will survive, well beyond us, is mother nature. She knows how to fight back and I think it is becoming more apparent that humans are the pathogen that she has to fight.

A good watch
20 May 2020
Jack Palance is quite a stiking young man in this film with very sharp features. Joan Crawford still holds the picture firmly however in her role. It's a good thriller with twists all through the end that leaves you wondering where things will end up, like a good thriller does. Enjoy!

ONE TAKE!
20 May 2020
It took me a while to realize that the camera didn't stop through the entire film. I had to go back and watch it over again to be sure. There is no editing in this film. This is a stage play or a ballet of sorts becuase there is no room to mess up. Besides that, it's an exciting and surprising WWI story which is always important to be told.

Funny, at first
20 May 2020
The first few seasons of this show was so funny that I almost hurt from laughing so much. In the last seasons, it changed direction a little too much for me and I kinda feel that it lost its groove. Howver, the writing is witty and quick and sharp and very enjoyable. It's not predictable either, which happens with so many sitcoms.

Best Star Trek Movie
20 May 2020
I don't know how any Star Trek TNG fan could rate this anything but a 10! Directed by a cast member perfectly tells the story that takes us back in time, yet forward in our future and pits the captain of the Enterprise against his most accomplished villain yet, the Borg Queen! WHAT? That added a whole new element to the Borg. in addition to characters from their history who were completely sidelined by everything going on...the complexity made for amazing intrigue. Of course, my heros are all there from the ship but Alfre Woodard positioned herself as almost a crew member who stood her ground when needed. The back and forth between the away team and the ship made for a non-stop sci-fi thriller that was so exciting to watch again and again and again.

Amazing!
20 May 2020
This film rates as one of my all time favorites. I have watched this film so many times because I love it so much. Firstly, Tom Hardy playing twin brothers as completely unique people is trully a sight to be seen. I didn't know much about the Kray Twins and I am sure that this film takes some liberties with the storyline, but I think it made for a better story.

Couldn't Finish

Took too long and I lost interest. I'm a big fan of history and culture, but this just seemed really rediculous and unworthy of the man.
