Keeping Mum (1997)
Good performers and the not really so insulting to 'Mum'
Keeping Mum is more about the long-suffering Andrew, Martin Ball plays this role with loving tender annoyance towards this Mum, played by Peggy Cole.Mum is not so senile as one may be led to believe. She is busy discovering new ways to keep Andrew home and to herself. Thus, rather than thinking that the show is exhibiting the elderly as scatterbrain and having to depend on others, I like to think of it as 'don't underestimate your elders, they are smarter than you think'.
Judging Amy (1999)
A Great show became a big disappointment
I won't go into a plot summary. Other comments do a better job than I could. I too use to watch this show every week. The cast is put together well. I will miss seeing Richard Crenna. Maxine should have stayed with him sooner. Tyne Daly carries the show with a great supporting cast. I have to admit that I no longer watch the show. I liked the court scenes with Judge Amy. She is strong, fair, and decisive. However, I grew tired of her overly needy relationship with with everyone. She clings to Bruce's every word and it seems she cannot make a move without consulting him first. A needy relationship with Maxine pulls her in all directions which can be "normal" for mother-daughter relationships, and I could live with this relationship, but the needy relationship with her brother and daughter are difficult to watch. She is jealous of anyone else in their life such as the young teen woman who was hired to watch her daughter after school. Also I grew tired of Amy's constant whining and her crying episodes just about each week. As I said earlier Tyne Daly and the rest of the cast are well-rounded and developed characters who are interesting and still a bit unpredictable. I wish I could say the same about Amy Brenneman's character.
Hidden Hills (2002)
Positive response to the show
I think the show is funny. I like the format of show with hearing the thoughts of Doug Barber (Justin Louis). I think Dondre Whitfield is great as the low key neighbor and friend Zack. I like the friendship between the women of the show as well as the friendship of the men in the show. It is a good vehicle for showing viewers the inside world of men and women. I like the relationship between Doug and Janine (Paula Marshall). It is sweet without being syrupy. The show does show reality in a way. It takes situations that occur in real life that are often disastrous but here they are always funny without much damage. Like getting stuck at your spouse's office party, really wanting to spend time just by yourself, thinking a friend is attracted to you just to name a few. I hope they keep the show on for a long run.
Titus (2000)
Miss the show
I guess the earlier comments were right. They must have run out of material. Poor writers? Could be..I did not think much of Caroline in the City and I never heard of Holding the Baby. The show is not on TV any more. I too thought it was funny and liked Chris Titus very much. The cast combination worked well and Stacy Keach was a hoot.
Perhaps the time slot did not work well for them. It is a loss.
Will & Grace (1998)
This show has become an embarrassment
I use to like this show but now find it more embarrassing than anything else. The friendship theme between Will and Grace has become sick. The Gay theme is really downplayed with Will so it makes me feel as if the show is using the "Gay" thing as a hook because "Gay" is "in" but not really doing anything with it. Jack has become a caricature. Even Karen's role is no longer funny and she was the best thing going on the show.
