Don't Worry Darling (2022)
stepford wives reimagining
My complaints about this essentially being a stepford wives remake aside, this film actually had a lot of potential but seemed to be too focused on imagery/artistic elements. It lacks cohesiveness and major plot points aren't fleshed out. I wouldn't recommend paying money to see this one in the theaters, but it's worth an at-home watch. Highlights are certainly Florence Pugh (truly an incredible actress that completely steals the show) and effective creepiness. At one point I had to leave the theater during and I felt very uncomfortable and I LOVED that. Again, this one had potential to be great, but it falls significantly short.
Manifest (2018)
why did i watch this
Good concept very poorly executed. Someone should steal this premise and make it good.
Fantasy Island (2020)
this is actually really fun
I really enjoyed it. if you're watching in hopes of a good scare, this ain't it. but it's a cheap fun ride.
Us (2019)
fantastic.
Ithis movie is the perfect meshing of suspense, horror, humor, and underlying themes with a serious aftertaste of dread. thrilling and beautifully shot, acted, and directed. although unsettling, the scariest part of this film is not anything you'll see while watching - it's what creeps up on you later when you're alone in your thoughts. and THAT is the mark of a great film.
Get Out (2017)
this movie is fine.
This film is severely overhyped. it's fine, and entertaining, but it's not original or groundbreaking by any means. it's a re-imagined hybrid of the skeleton key and the stepford wives. had the ending been different (and what i suspected was about to happen), i would've given this another star or two.
