Golmaal 3 (2010)
Unfunny and downright insulting to audience intelligence
First of all let me say that I am not someone who does not enjoy mindless comedies. For example I loved Sunday which was also directed by Rohit Shetty. It too was mindless but had great performances, funny lines and some memorable scenes. But with Golmaal 3, Rohit Shetty has taken things too far. Not a single dialogue is remotely funny and the recorded laughter in the background doesn't make them funnier. A mute person and one with a stammer are supposed to make you laugh. At least all the other characters keep laughing at their disabilities. I wonder how no one in the crew thought this could actually be insensitive to large sections of society. Then there is no story to talk about. It is just a series of inane scenes pasted together. Many things happen without any apparent reason and characters do many things and spout many dialogues which make no sense at all. The whole thing is a juvenile exercise designed to blow up lots of money and some cars on the sets. What is most insulting is that the director has the cheek to name it after one of the most brilliant comedies in Indian film history. The only good thing about this movie are a couple of lovely songs but watching the entire movie is too high a price to pay just to enjoy two songs. My advice is: avoid it even if it's showing on TV for free. I would have gone with negative stars if I could but IMDb allows a minimum of one. So there.
Hum Ho Gaye Aap Ke (2001)
Superb romantic film
I am shocked at the low rating that this movie has received on IMDb. I suppose people did not give it a fair chance. The director (Ahathian) did not direct any movie after this, I wonder why. This film tugs at your heart strings, makes you want to cry and then fills up your heart with joy, warmth, hope and love. A must watch if you are a die hard romantic. The best part of the film is that the limited acting abilities of the lead actors do not succeed in overshadowing the terrific script! Yes this movie is awesome in spite of Fardeen and Reema! Imagine how good it is then! And the awesome songs, oh... let me go and listen to them once more now... I give it ten on ten.
Jaan Tere Naam (1992)
College romance -- good, songs -- good, drama -- good, comedy -- good, what's there to not like?
Ahh, those were the days. College guys and girls falling in love, bunking classes, dancing to some great tunes, till the villain or warring families came in their way. A few tense moments later, they live happily ever after. It's the same with this movie. Ronit Roy is superb and Farheen is lovely. They are passionately in love and will sing, dance and fight till the world leaves them alone, and how! The songs are outstanding and even after all these years, they never fail to tug at my heart strings (the heavenly combination of Kumar Sanu, Alka Yagnik, Nadeem-Shravan). Watch this movie with an open mind, especially if you are a die-hard romantic, and you won't be disappointed!
Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon (2003)
A sweet movie made for die-hard romantics
I don't know what the other reviewers here are upset about. It's not that you go to see a Sooraj Barjatiya film hoping to see some Oscar level performances or great story or brilliant film making. If you are in love, believe in love or are a die-hard romantic, see this one. True, there is some hamming from the actors and a lot of overplayed emotions. But hell, they are in love! And they are passionate about it! But its all done very sweetly with a lot of sincerity in some fantastic locales with some outstanding music. Hrithik will make your heart cry, Kareena will make you want to fall in love and your heart will go out to Abhishek. And you will go home believing that the world is a beautiful place full of love. What else do you want from a Sooraj Barjatiya movie or from any movie for that matter?
