The Devil's Ring (2021)
Juan Salas' best film to date
The Devil's ring dances between genres as it navigates between a redemption story, a street drama, a mob film and a boxing film. Alexander Luna delivers a powerful performance as the ex-con trying to make good, living up to the memory of his father. Al Dias, breaking from his usual tough guy persona, give a more vulnerable heartfelt aura to his grizzled veteran boxer persona. The intermittent drone footage does it's job setting locations, but can be a bit jarring at times. A great effort was made by all and it shows.
Sorry I Missed You (2011)
Awards
The film stars Al Garret as a man who hears a knocking at the door. The problem is, no-one's there when he gets there. Arthur continues to try to go on about his day, yet there's still a knock at the door. Al Garret delivers a powerful, heartfelt performance as a man driven to the point of insanity. It's a touching, funny, well paced roller coaster of a ride. It will have you guessing until the end.
This short has won two awards. Judges selection at the Neo-Relics Film Festival 2011, and Best Short Film at the DeSoto Indiefest 2011.
The best part about this is that it has only been in two festivals so far. Not a bad percentage.
