Columbo: Make Me a Perfect Murder (1978)
A marvelous performance by Trish Van Devere
This is, by far, one of the most intriguing episode of Columbo. I love the tone of the storytelling, the incredible music, the suspence and the incredible performance by Trish Van Devere. I'm a huge fan of her (one of my favorite movies is The day of the dolphin) and she's magnificent here. She plays the role of Kay with the right balance between coldness and anger, sensibility and pain. She is a scorned woman, but also a very sensitive and empathetic one. You can see in Van Devere's performance every shades of a woman with so many emotions. Falk has been matched with so many talented and great actors. But Van Dever has created a very strong character that it's really a pleasure to see Columbo struggling. A perfect episode that fully celebrate the astonishing talent and beauty of Trish Van Devere.
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit: Bang (2011)
Lori Singer is fantastic
This is a special episode for me. As good as always, this one truly hits the mark thanks to the marvelous turn of Fame, Footloose and Short Cuts star Lori Singer. After years and years of hiatus, the actress demonstrates that she is a powerful presence of screen. She's fully commited in her role and shines in her most dramatic scenes. She's just great in this episode. John Stamos is also very good.
Summer Heat (1987)
A subtle, intimate portrait with a marvelous Lori Singer
I truly loved this movie. It's one of those storytelling case where the drama surfaced from the soul and the intime connection between the characters. I love the fact that Michie Gleason has given the atmosphere an important role. I really feel every emotion about Roxy thanks to the subtle and delicate performance of Lori Singer. She has been terrific in movies like "Short Cuts" or "Trouble in mind", but here she lets her inside beauty to come out with little touch of tenderness. Roxy is a child woman, who explores the passion and can't control it. But she loves her daughter and she is in the middle of a storm. I think miss Singer has done a wonderful job because you have empathy for Roxy.
It is also wonderful to see her interaction with the great Clu Gulager and Oscar winner Kathy Bates in a small, but pivotal role.
The music melts my heart. Kim Carnes song is so touching as well as the soundtrack. Summer Heat is a little gem.
Bach Cello Suite #4: Sarabande (1997)
A masterpiece. Lori Singer is outstanding.
Sarabande is pure joy. It opens your mind. It melt your heart. Atom Egoyan is one of the most incredible storyteller of our time. This short movie is no short in emotions. The cast is wonderful. Yo-Yo Ma is a genius. But it's Lori Singer (Fame, Short Cuts, Footloose) who really shines here. She is so talented. She is beautiful, she is a great cello player, but here, in particular, she demonstrates that she is a terrific actress. Her performance is subtle, genuine, intimate. It's a magnetic piece of art.
