Fear and Loathing in Aspen (2021)
If you actually know HST outside the caricature...you'll love this movie.
So many people trash on this movie because it's not Vegas.
It was never supposed to be.
Vegas was the trip...this was the man.
I am beyond impressed at how he was portrayed, the story of the real life battle of Aspen, as well as the feel of the cinematography. It was hard to distinguish whether scenes were from real old movies or shot specifically for this film.
It brought a tear to my eye as I miss this man in our world very much, and this love letter to his complexities was a great look back at how the man actually ticked.
If you're looking for Vegas, which is a great film, go to Vegas. But if you want to see a movie about the man instead of the myth...this movie is great.
The Book of Boba Fett (2021)
Enough with the space cowboy stuff!
I get it. It worked for Mando...but this ripoff seems like a lazy money grab by Disney. Robert Rodriguez isn't impressing me with a lot of it. There is just no way I can see a director look at the mighty morphin space moped chase scene in Chapter 3 and think they did a good job. It honestly had me feeling like I was watching the enforcer chase in Space Mutiny.
And enough with the western motif. Star Wars is set in a GALAXY far far away. Not a miserable dead mad max planet that we've seen a million times through all the movies and series. In the original trilogy, we were treated to snow planets, forest moons, cloud cities, swamp planets, etc. But now we're supposed to be crapping ourselves with joy because he goes from one Mos to another?
To sum up...speaking on only chapters 1-3...it's lazy, boring, cheesy, clumsy, and tries to add this story line to our old antihero that seems rather dull and very predictable.
The only thing that seems to stay true to the original Fett is that he's a pansy in this show and gets his butt whipped more than I did in middle school for liking Star Wars back in the mid 90's.
SOME of it is cool, but with the Hutts being CGI, the new kids on the Zordon Block, Fett getting bent over every episode, and the whole western shtick...I don't have much hope.
What worked for Mando is not working for Fett, as of now.
I hope I'm proven wrong with every episode after this.
Snowpiercer (2013)
Maybe I like this kind of movie...you don't have to.
I liked this movie very much. I got on a kick of dystopian movies for a bit and this one crossed my path.
I like being told a story...plain and simple. Whether it is the true story of the Apollo 13 astronauts or the very untrue story of an old man and teenager who travel through time in a Delorean.
This movie was really well told. I was hooked into it from start to finish. Sure there are plot holes...but if you can't just sit down and enjoy a story...what's the point.
So for the non snobs.
If you like movies like Children of Men, Sunshine, the Road, Mad Max...you know...weird futuristic post apocalyptic stuff? This movie will leave you satisfied as well as in a thinking mood. It was simply an entertaining, action packed, thought provoking, twisted, dark, kind of hard to watch in some parts, Indiana Jones mine car chase from hell.
Enjoy!
