Homeland: Rebel Rebel (2018)
This is dumbest one of all
Homeland has been spiraling down the drain for a long time, but this was the most inane of all. As the country is headed for civil war, the president decides that the number one priority is to locate and capture a wacko TV radical, using her new national security advisor fresh out of federal prison. Well, to even out this "suspense" the show takes us to Carrie, CIA genius that she is, who illogically gets her computer hacked with ransomware while spying on the president's number one lackey. To make matters worse, she then proceeds to seduce the ransomer with her womanly guile. By this time we are all laughing uncontrollably as Carrie beats the crap out of the creep and gets her computer unlocked. The only saving grace in all this is that Claire Danes is professional enough to sell it. Can't wait for the next thrilling episode of Gilligan's Island.
Homeland: New Normal (2015)
Starwars
Of course Homeland started out portraying the "intelligence" of the CIA. It has now evolved into the incompetent bungling of an agency that is populated by idiots, terrorists, psychos, spies, counter-spies and counter-counter-spies, or in other words, the Keystone Cops. Evidently, the writers believe they can sell this premise by injecting unbelievable twisted plots, outrageous coincidences, cliff-hangers and superheroes. What we have now is a sci-fi thriller that has become largely predicable and could pass as a Starwars sequel.
The previous episode evidenced that Peter Quinn indeed has nine lives, although he has used up several of them thanks to a bullet proof vest, atropine and a benevolent doctor. How many more times can Quinn pull life out of the jaws of death? Of course Carrie and Astrid prove equally incredible as they narrowed a potential search of 1500 buildings down to a possible 39, and despite the entire service searching buildings, the dynamic duo just happen to get lucky with the 1 in 39 to find Quinn, still alive I might add.
Finally we have super hero Carrie, aka Wonder Woman, with only the aid of a group picture, rush to the train station and pick out Qasim out of the 1000s in the station and then single-handedly kill the terrorist seconds before releasing the gas.
By now, the episodes have become tedious and mostly unbelievable. However, I will continue to struggle through the remainder of the series only because I vowed to watch the whole thing, but more importantly, to watch some impressive performances by a handful of the actors. I will just have to learn to live with the inane scripts.
Homeland: All About Allison (2015)
Laughable
Not worthy of extended comment, but it is required. Counted at least five or six subplots in this episode going on at the same, not including flashbacks. Can't tell the characters or situations without a scorecard.
Usually enjoy a stirring, suspenseful spy story, but overdone can be a disaster. Homeland had a promising beginning, but many episodes dissolve into a collage of confusion, filler and gratuitous extraneous situations. Who is sleeping with whom is always in the background. Midway through "All About Allison" I found myself scoffing at some of the ridiculous goings on loaded with flashbacks and filler until actually laughing at the end. The cast deserved much better writing.
