Dexter (2006–2013)
9/10
I have seen many TV shows, never seen anything like DEXTER!
28 January 2011
Uptil today, I have seen many prime time and cable series. From Fringe, CSI, The Practice to more recently, Breaking Bad, Damages, Boardwalk Empire, The Event, The Walking Dead. And of course Dexter. I must say - my favourite of them all is still - ALL HAIL DEXTER! I won't even bother with Mad men, although i know they are a multi-award winning show, but i saw snippets of it and boy, snoooooozzzefest!

So after all that guilty pleasure in my TV junkie binge, I still give Dexter the most stars as it is something that is morbid, dark and conflicted at the same time, pure, exciting and twisted! And you will definitely get reeled into the character of Dexter. However, i must point out to SHOWTIME and producers and writers of Dexter SEASON 5 - there were too many loopholes and were at some parts, unrealistic. So please - FIX IT for SEASON 6!

The Event (2010–2011)

Unique concept with adrenaline-pumping action!

Warning: Spoilers
Honestly when i first saw the first few minutes of this pilot episode, I started to think maybe this could be somewhat unrealistic. For example, the airplane scene. How on earth did they get guns on board?? I am not going to give names in case i give away too much.

But laziness stopped me from switching the button and i watched on and on and on and then i realize, that the plot behind it actually has a much bigger mastermind to it and involves a lot of things happening at once. That doesn't mean its bad. It just means the writer and producers HAD BETTER explain and come to a conclusion with EVERY loose end they put out there. Otherwise, its damn interesting and addictive and now I am already on the last episode and CAN'T WAIT for Feb when the show returns!

The flashbacks aren't a problem for me AS LONG as the writers DO NOT make it like LOST. Hell, there's a fine line between staying focused and interested, and then there is just plain draining and exhausting to watch. And that was the case with Lost. So please guys, keep THE EVENT moving fast! Keep the flashbacks to a minimum if possible!

Acting wise, great for some. The ones that do it for me are Blake Sterling as the Head of CIA. That dude may be tiny but he sure is a force to be reckoned with. Thomas as the alien gone bad, and Vicky Roberts cos she's so hot! If The Event is able to withhold the audience's interests and keep us hooked with fresh, shocking twists for the rest of the hopefully many more seasons to come, and basically do what they have been doing for the 1st season, then i see this show lasting for as long as Lost did.

Gerard and Foxx are a hit-combo!!
22 January 2010
What do you get when you combine 2 of the world's most talented and intense actors of all time? An award-winning performance even amidst a rather ingenious storyline with might I say, more than a few loopholes.

You will be blown away initially, with the gore, violence and pure intelligence of the way Gerard's character, Clyde, a tormented father, mourning the loss of his wife and daughter after 10 years, plays out the murders of the people who were involved in the trial against the murderers of his family. No doubt for a villain, Gerard is captivating, menacing and wittingly charming all at the same time. He is so convincing that at times, he makes you feel his motives for the murders were 100% justified! Foxx definitely kept his end of the bargain up by delivering a cocky, self-righteous, successful lawyer persona when he compromises the trial of Gerard's murdered family by allowing one of the 2 killers off with a light sentence. Throughout the movie, you can see Foxx's demeanour changing, losing his focus and strength after being worn down by Butler's incomprehensible and systematic killings, even as Butler is locked up at a maximum security prison! I won't go into details as to what the loopholes are, cos if we analyse it too much, we tend to forget that this movie, at its core, has an original and compelling storyline, somewhat a mix of Seven and The Bone collector. I DEFINITELY feel this movie was worth every bit of $7 and will DEFINITELY buy the DVD when it's out - uncensored!!
