A Family for Joe: A Family for Joe (1990)
A brilliant Mitchum film w him as an adopted "Guardian" to orphaned kids.
What more can I say but that this was a brilliantly done film with Robert Mitchum who was "adopted" by some kids as their "Uncle Joe" because they were orphaned when their parents died in an accident.
You find this film with Mitchum being a "Homeless person" who lived either in cardboard boxes and or on park benches. He is "taken in" by some kids to act as their guardian so that these kids would not be moved to a childrens home.
This is one of the VERY few drama's I like as much as I do and highly recommend that it be watched. You see Robert Mitchum as you have never seen him before.
Where Eagles Dare (1968)
Thoroughly interesting from start to finish.
Having Richard Burton as the Superstar of a movie can only be helped to shine brighter by having Clint Eastwood as his costar. This fine movie is very welldone and is very accurate in many ways with the period vehicles and wonderful German music played.
The scenery in the film is also very fantastic and makes you feel as if you are there--along with the movie characters. I highly recommend watching this movie and recommend buying it on DVD when released. You will not be disappointed in it as well as the excellent music score as the movies theme.
The Bridge at Remagen (1969)
A movie to enjoy on any evening.
From the start to the finish of this film, one is held captive in the suspense and the drama that is this fine war movie. The scenery is totally fantastic and DOES give one the feeling as if they are actually going into Germany. The sights and sounds are fantastic--as well as all the people who acted in this film.
I had not seen this movie since I was much younger until I bought the DVD--which it is definately worth owning.
Battle of the Bulge (1965)
You cannot have a better cast for a war movie as this one has.
This movie was as good as they get because you have very talented actors like Henry Fonda, Robert Ryan, Charles Bronson, Robert Shaw, Hans-Christian Bleth, Karl Otto Alberty, Ty Hardin and the unforgettable; Telly Savalas.
Though Robert Shaw portrays a German Colonel and Recipient of the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross, he does an excellent job in his portrayal of a German Tank unit Commander. Karl Otto Alberty does an excellent job as Shaws 2nd in command, as well as Hans-Christian Bleth does an excellent job as Shaws driver--the older and very experianced but tired--German Corporal. Another unforgettable performance is by Ty Hardin as a German Commando dressed in an American uniform.
I thought this was one of Henry Fondas best movies as well as Charles Bronson and George Montgomery (the American Sergeant). Telly Savalas was also unforgettable as Guffy--the Tank Commander--who wanted to come out of the war a wealthy man.
The action scenes are good for a movie that was compressed but did convey the message oabout the actual battle very satisfactorily. I highly recommend buying and watching this movie as I plan on doing the moment it comes out on DVD.
Time Limit (1957)
THE best courtroom drama I have ever seen.
With Richard Basehart as the man on trial, this is one of his most stunning works I have ever had the pleasure to see. Richard Widmark is also in one of his finest roles as the Colonel who is also Baseharts Lawyer.
As it starts out in a POW Camp somewhere in Korea--you get a gritty feel of what some of those men had to endure--thanks to the fine acting done my Richard Basehart. Thanks to Richard Widmark--you also get a great job done as a man who is trying to up-hold the honors of his profession under incredable pressure from his Commanding Officer--a General, to come up with a quick conviction on Basehart.
I highly recommend this movie as something to see. You will not be disappoiinted in the time you spent in watching this VERY fine film.
Rio Grande (1950)
A very classic Western
One of the best Westerns of all time. One is rivited to the TV screen from the moment this fine film starts till its finished.
You have many memorable characters in this movie--like Sgt Maj Quincannon (Victor McLaglen) Tyree (Ben Johnson) etc.
Everything is classic about this film. The Colonels own son enlisting in the US Cavalry, the soldiers fight scenes, the Indians capturing a wagon-load of children, Tyree being charged for murder of a Yankee Cavalryman--escaping w/ some help from SgtMaj Quincannon, to the finale fight at a chapel in an Indian held town.
Favorite line: "You'll Get Busted for this Quincannon!!!"
