I prefer cats
24 October 2010
One of the problems with this film is its immense complexity renders the viewer a mere piece of driftwood to be tossed violently upon the ocean of art. When the hero cries out, "I prefer cats", one can't help but be thrust back to what Camus called the essential question. And that, dear viewer, is the dilemma, can we live with the question of existence at the forefront of our mind, or can we only live if that question is repressed to the sub-conscious. Can man find refuge in the tranquility of a companion animal, or is it the shark that lurks beneath the subconscious. This film raises questions that will prod and disturb the viewer. It is not for everyone, in fact it may not be your cup of tea at all. Watch with caution.

a favourite
24 October 2010
This is one of my favourite films, I have seen it twice. Having lived in Adelaide until I was 22 I can say it captures the city and nature of the residents in a very thoughtful and complete manner. Remarkable film in its understated style and ability to convey feeling with little effort. Is awkward at times but this tends to add to the charm, like meeting an old friend after many years. My Year Without Sex is also worth seeing, though I didn't enjoy it as much it is still a very good film. Hopefully more and more people will begin to realise that wonderful films can be made on small budgets and without resorting to masses of computer generated scenes. Maybe directors will once again trust actors to bring intelligent contributions to the film and allow them to navigate their own way through the development of a character. It seemed the actors found their own ways of playing these characters and hence they were given dimensions that are never evident in many other films.

Epitafios (2004–2009)

pleasant surprise
6 April 2010
I only started watching this show on Australia's SBS because I was learning Spanish. I soon became addicted and couldn't wait for the next episode. Epitafios has qualities of a popular Silence of the Lambs style horror but it is infused with a wonderful Operatic style that, like true Opera, can absorb the melodrama. I had no knowledge of the series length and assumed it would end with the episode I was watching, only to find a turn or two before what appeared to be the finale. Great stuff! After every show I was eagerly awaiting the next. Also has some fantastic scenes of Beunos Airies that made me wish I was back in that beautiful city.
