Immaculate (2024)
THIS is what The First Omen should have been
Having watched The First Omen and considering what a massive let down that was, I was pretty skeptical going into this, especially reading how 'similar' the 2 movies are.
This is how you do a great horror. Extremely creepy, intense with a solid plot, great direction and superbe acting. It will stay with me for a long time, especially the last act.
What a great take on the Catholic Church horror genre. Way way way better than The First Omen, despite reviews or overall score might suggest otherwise (honestly, don't understand how that is even possible)
Highly recommend this to anyone looking for a good, well written & directed and legitimately creepy horror)
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
Cinema at its finest
Don't think I've ever intermittently laughed so hard / cried so much while watching a movie before. Without a doubt one of the best movies I've seen in years. So many different layers and and so so much heart. What a masterpiece.
Freaks Out (2021)
Wonderful gem
This was such a wonderful movie. X-Men meets Del Toro with a bit of Fellini. Wonderful story full of heart and magic. Incredible cast, special effects and soundtrack. What a wonderful little gem. Loved loved loved.
Malignant (2021)
James Wan HAS to be trolling us at this stage. One of the worst movies I've EVER seen
There are bad movies, then there's Malignant . Never laughed so hard (only when it was not meant to be funny). Literally couldn't stop. The acting, the dialogue. The editing, the soundtrack (especially), what a complete mess - I honestly think James Wan is taking the piss at this stage. And yes, I get the last 10 minutes were TRYING to be camp and funny but it was definitely an after thought. And definitely not worth the rest). Man, I thought The Nun was bad but NOPE. Genuinely gobsmacked this was made and distributed, it was so baaaaad!
Mother! (2017)
I never ever hated a movie this much in my life. Gross. Wish I hadn't seen it.
**** apologies in advance for the language*** I never ever hated a movie and wished I hadn't watched it this much in my whole life. I am a huge fan of horrors. Violence or gore in movies don't affect me at all, but I actually feel sick and gross after watching it. It started out as an unsettling thriller and I was quite enjoying it, until things got so f*cked up that many people left and I, for the first time in my life, thought about leaving the cinema too. I wish I did. Honestly, it was the most vile, gross, f*cked up thing I have ever seen. Compared to this, "Inside", "Martyrs" and "Human Centipede" are PG. Pure and gratuitous pornography. And there was absolutely ZERO pay-off, just pretentious b*llshit masqueraded as "metaphors" and "art". What kind of sick f*ck would come up with this "concept" and decides it's OK to show it? I am never EVER going to see any of his movies again.
Resident Evil: Retribution (2012)
Loved the previous one this was just OK
*** SPOILER ALERT****. Mixed feelings about this movie. I'm a HUGE fan of the entire series and absolutely loved the previous one. I had been waiting for this movie for a whole year and literally counting down the days but I'm sadly a bit disappointed. In this last chapter some scenes were really cool, especially the opening sequence when she was the trapped in the house, that's what Resident Evil is about.. But overall it felt more like a war movie than Resident Evil : too many gun fights and not enough zombies. I felt like the plot was weak and it was just a movie to set up the next chapter of the series. ('cause from the ending there has to be another one, right?) I didn't like the way they brought back some of the old characters just for the sake of it and the fact that Alice teams up with Albert Wesker and you just have to accept it. And also the Red Queen controlling Umbrella sounds just silly..how and when did it happen? Another thing you just have to accept. Also Alice looks more and more like Selene from Underworld. They should have escaped the Russian facility after 30 mins and the movie should have focused on what happens next but..hopefully the next one? As a massive fan I really hope the next movie will be out soon and it will go back to the origins of the franchise.
Dorothy Mills (2008)
totally agree with one of the reviews: more movies like this!
I was pleasantly surprised with this movie. Considering the almost unknown cast and the fact that it wasn't a big production I think this was a very solid movie.
I liked the whole idea, Jenn Murray's performance was excellent and the end is totally worth the whole film.
I wish there were more good low budget movies like this rather than big Hollywood productions with no soul.
This is a perfect example of a movie that delivers when given funding from the Irish Film Board.
I'd totally recommend it and let's hope we'll see more Irish films.
