Homeless Man: The Restless Heart of Rich Mullins (1998)
Great if you knew his music...
I saw this movie when I was in high school shortly after he had died. It was really interesting to see the kind of person he was outside of his music. He had a very unique perspective on life and seeing "famous" people (in the Christian recording industry, anyway) talk about the kind of friend he was and how humble he was and what kind of example he set was a really amazing thing. His song-writing and his sense of charity were really inspired and sincere and he led the kind of life that spoke louder than he did. He was a very quiet and shy person and was very connected to the people he loved. If you like his music, you should see if you can track down a copy on ebay or something 'cause it's just as insightful as his music is.
Red Eye (2005)
Absolute Dreck
If you haven't seen it yet, just take whatever money you would have spent on going to the theater and run it through a paper shredder. I'm going to go ahead and spoil the movie for you even though I'm sure it'll just inspire you to run out and see it this very day and really TRY to like it, but then you're just going leave the movie theater crestfallen and thinking "Man... that dude was right... I should've just gone to Hastings and read comic books." Even if you don't like comic books, it's a better idea.
This is quite possibly the WORST movie I have ever paid good money to see. Admittedly, I found a theater that only charges four dollars for students to see it, but I honestly think I'd have had to stick my fingers in a wood chipper if I'd spent any more money than that. Honestly, I'd have rather had somebody kicking me in the shins for an hour and a half. Here's the movie in a nut shell:
Cillian Murphy is supposedly some kind of hardened killer even though they don't spend any time developing the character and he never really does anything except push Rachel McAdams around, so you don't really believe him capable of anything really evil. They should have shown him lighting squirrels on fire or something. Then you have Rachel McAdams who is supposed to play this really overly-performance-driven hotel manager, despite the fact that she played a sixteen year-old in "Mean Girls" and nobody in their right mind would put a sixteen year-old girl in charge of anything.
CM: Oh, hi, I'm totally normal.
RM: Really? Cool. I find you attractive.
CM: I'm just kidding. I assassinate people for a living.
RM: Okay.
CM: Now, call your job.
RM: No.
CM: I'll kill your dad.
RM: Fine.
It's one of those movie plots that really can't sustain itself for more than half an hour. There's only so many "plot twists" you can throw in there before they just become redundant. By the end, you're just ready for him to kill her so you can call it a night and go home. And it's not really "suspenseful" anymore if you WANT the main character to die. I think the only redeeming qualities this movie has are when Murphy head butts McAdams on the plane and then later she stabs him in the neck with a pen. Oh yeah, and there's a panty-shot when she falls down a flight of stairs. That's it. Everything else about the movie was crap.
And see, I didn't even tell you about how the only reason they're going through all of this is because there's a plot to fish a rocket launcher out of the ocean to assassinate some made-up politician who probably deserved to die so there's still something about the movie I DIDN'T ruin for you.
