The Putin Interviews (2017)
Uncritical and disappointing.
Oliver Stone sounds like a journalist you've heard of before and hence one would assume he has some kind of credibility to his name. This documentary proves that he does not. In the entire four hours of interviews Oliver Stone does not manage to muster up a single critical response to anything Putin says.
It is natural for a journalis to try and charm their interviewees before asking critical questions, but Oliver Stone seems to have grown old and timid otherwise he has simply forgotten the reason he arrived.
Game of Thrones: The Spoils of War (2017)
Disappointing lack of military research.
Mediocre episode with a disappointing ending. The script seems rather rushed for this episode, it is like they producer think they can hide their plot holes with cool effects. The military strategies implemented by Daenerys can be surpassed by those of a toddler. Why did daenerys not just fly along the line of soldiers and burn them all in one blaze of glory rather than only use her dragon to break their line and have her Dothraki ride directly into a shieldwall? Why did they ride directly into the shieldwall when the line was broken? Why did she burn the supply line when the battle was obviously won? She just burned her own loot... Why do the writers make no attempt to hide Bronn and Jaimes plot armor?
Man v. Food (2008)
Thinly veiled commercial for your local restaurant.
Every episode of this show seems like a 20 minute commercial for local American restaurants. The host is amazed at how well every restaurant he visits operates and every bite of food he stuffs into his mouth, he claims to be the most wonderful thing he has ever eaten. The extreme simplicity with which he describes his meals and his inability to form a sentence without stumbling over every word makes Alan Richman not only seem like an incompetent host, but an allround useless individual. The enthusiasm he has about every meal, kills his credibility and vaguely hides the fact that the restaurant is paying him to be there.
All in all. A bad commercial.
Atlanta (2016)
Good start, bad standard.
I found the first four episodes of the series to be interesting and rich in originality. However after the fourth episode the quality seemed to take a sudden downward plunge.
The main character Earn and his cousin Paperboy are both easily irritable and put in too much effort to separate from the flock, however they both end up in a typical edgy hipster stereotype. They are on their own very dull characters, but in the first four episodes they are encountered with peculiar characters and events, while the last six episodes of the first season can be described as normal people experiencing normal things.
The War Show (2016)
A bland coverage of an interesting conflict.
If you have been following the Syrian civil war in the news for the past five years, the movie does not add anything to what you already know.
Most of the movie is footage from the protagonists camera, consisting primarily of pictures of the ground and people telling her not to film.
The group of people, which we are supposedly following, are all vaguely introduced and you do not get an impression of their character before a picture of them is shown and the voice-over tells you they are dead.
In general there is nothing that justifies this being a movie. Obaidahs story could be written in a one page article and the video gives only a shallow impression of what is happening during the period.
The message of the movie is that Syrians are people with the same desires as everyone else. However that should not surprise anyone. What did surprise me however is that someone managed to make such a bland documentary about the most complex war in contemporary history.
The Office: The List (2011)
Season 8 is the Toby of this TV series.
As Michael Scott left Sabre my anticipation for the newer episodes fell, but as James Spader nailed the role as Robert California I became really excited to see the new season of the office.
On Septemper 22nd all my hopes for the series was crushed. The new episodes are the worst ever made and I recommend you to pretend the series ended with season 7.
The episode is dull with only few minutes of actual entertainment. The episode has an awkward atmosphere as Andy is given the job as regional manager, which in my opinion is a role, that he is not a big enough character to carry.
