Jury Duty (2023)
Must Watch This! Great example of a real social experiment
I can't say enough about this show. Don't sleep on this one! It took me by surprise and had me howling with laughter at my screen. The best part of it all is the Hero. What a fine example of a human being and reassurance that despite how the priorities of today's culture seem lost and void there still remains those willing to show integrity loyalty and kindness in their day to day. As a concept, the producers did an awesome job in keeping it believable and authentic. Even if some of the situations / happenstances were a little cliche, it was a work of professional art by all the actors involved, in keeping a straight face and going with the direction of the Hero. Kudos to all involved in this show. I CANT wait for season 2.
Don't Look Up (2021)
Really disappointing even with such an awesome cast
Had high expectations for this film especially with the heavy weight cast line up and plot. But it fell flat!!!! The visuals / scenes at the end were horrendous and looked like a rushed copy and paste job. No flow or natural rhythm. The jokes were corny and stereotypical. I sat thru it only out of respect for the cast, however had these been unknown actors, I'd have turned it off after 20mins. Loved the fact that these actors were willing to try something different and satirical, but it was a detestable waste of their talents. Watch it, if only to tick the box as you'll definitely chuckle at some scenes but this won't be one that's on the re watch list.
Swan Song (2021)
Worth a watch if only for the technological advancements coming soon.
So positives are:- a really great cast, location and illustration of advanced technology in every day use. Negatives: it fell flat with the plot and pace of the film as a whole. So much more could have been done with such a stellar cast. The concept itself is very thought provoking and could have been explored with some real gravitas. Ali gives a great performance with such a stunted script but Harris was just wasted imo. Only thing I left excited about was the potential to play AR games in FaceTime with that kind of HD screen in the future and truly driverless cars. Oh and ordering train snacks from an AI.
Do You Believe? (2015)
Once you get over the 'Clichès' it's a BEAUTIFUL Film!
So I won't pretend that the overall 'vibe' of this film is not clichè-riddled. However when you put that aside and actually tap into the message of this film - that's when it comes into its own. It is a beautiful story of conviction and compassion overcoming all things, even in the midst of immense tragedy and suffering. You don't have to be a Christian to understand that message. We all need to simply love one another (especially strangers). The way things came together for the characters in the film was beautiful and realistic. I was pleased it didn't look to gloss over issues of loss, death and pain. Would definitely recommend watching it, with a box of tissues at the ready 😉
Hogar (2020)
What a waste of time!
I really tried to give this film a chance and I regret having wasted these minutes of my life. The story line (cant even call it a plot) was unrealistic and cheesy. Even giving the script writers some artistic licence it was just too ridiculous for words. The acting was over the top. No. No. No. Don't do it to yourself.
The Two Popes (2019)
So proud of these two Legendary Actors and what they did here!
Whether or not you're a Catholic or supporter of the Papacy role, there is no denying that these two OG legends took such sensitive and challenging roles and executed them brilliantly. Love love Sir Anthony Hopkins and Jonathan Pryce. I was truly touched by the style in delivery of their respective stories. As for the story / plot itself, it felt slightly biased towards Pope Francis, as we did not get the same historical perspective of Pope Benedict's younger years and struggles he may have had as a young priest. I appreciated the apparent honesty of each character's flaws and struggles with being the example the Catholic Church looks to for guidance as Bishops. The ending felt a tad bit romanticised, however notwithstanding that, I would recommend this film for sure.
