Wonder Valley (2012)
Well conceived short provides stunning playground for up and coming actress
Wonder Valley is a brief tour through the mind and perspective of a young man in search of and coming to grips with his individuality, sexuality and his own soul. Beautifully shot and well produced and directed this film explores the internal struggle with love and loss and a search for the truth. Excellent use of music and the stark environment and locations provide a chilling contrast to the inner turmoil of a young man in search of his own identity. Of all the elements of this film the most notable (for this viewer at least) is the remarkable performance of the stunningly beautiful Mercedes Manning, who manages to play the roles of past, present and future (fantasy) love interests seamlessly and simultaneously showing the range and strength of her acting chops. Keep an eye on this girl, she is destined to go far. Good job to all on this fine short film
Prodigy (2012)
A warm and sensitive portrait of a young mother reconnecting with her inner child
This is a warm and sensitive portrait of a young mother reconnecting with her inner child through her own daughter. We are reminded here that age and experience are but cycles in the human experience and this work is a snapshot of that cycle closing on itself. Prodigy is a beautifully shot and conceived short film that carries most of it's dramatic impact in between the dialogue. The emotional arc is smooth, calculated and well designed. The actors are believable and do a fine job. The music is a character in this piece so as to the score I would say it is handled as such. A truly delightful ride. I enjoyed it immensely.
