The Caine Mutiny (1954)
Not too shallow, not too deep
*Spoiler alert*
Not ending the film with the trial where Capt. Queegs turns out to be not sane, was brilliant. The lawyer stated that even while he won the case, he questions what would have happened if the officers had been totally loyal to Queeg. In that case it might have been possible to advise him and he would probably have listened.
Two cons: - the love story doesn't add anything at all and is a waste of film; - although great special effects for a 1954 film, during the typhoon it obviously shows that the ship was a model.
8 stars for this iconic movie which got Michael Caine (Maurice Micklewhite in real life) his stage name.
Serbuan maut (2011)
Strange human behavior
The fight scenes were nice to see and maybe amongst the best I've seen. Well performed on man-to-man level with some surprising ways to kill.
However, the focus of this movie seems to be on the fight scenes only since all the clichés about fighting are in this movie: - attack one by one, preferably with a small but convenient distance between the attacks; - have no learning curve at all and attack in the same way as your buddies did before you, ignoring the fact your opponent already killed 5 or 6 of them; - if you have no clue about what is going on, just start yelling and swinging your machete, run around the corner and attack; - if you intend to attack from behind, make yourself known by a "martial arts yell" so your opponent can prepare himself; - if you attack with a revolver, get to your opponent as close as you can in stead of shooting him from a few feet away; - if a trained fighter kicks you in the head, just ignore it in stead of go lie down being KTFO; - after being punched in the kidneys at least 15 times stand up and fight in stead of be unable to do anything except experience the most excruciating pain.
