A Different Amy
19 March 2022
People are so quick to judge Amy Schumer. Give her a chance. People evolve and grow. This isn't her usual material. I don't think I've seen this side of her. It's serious and somber mixed with dark dry humor. It seems more adult.

So for those wondering, its really *not* her usual raunchy shenanigans. It's a woman dealing with life's various traumas, with a different sense of humor.

Dexter: New Blood: Sins of the Father (2022)

Hollow Climax
9 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
"If I could love anyone, it would be her." Dexter's accountability and humanity left with his sister. Where's the risk of it all? For him to proclaim he "never felt loved until now" rings hollow. The entire series is based around him keeping hidden who he really is from those he loved. And that was a very short list.

His relationship with his son was so short lived, it made it hard to feel any depth or sympathy. Compared to Dexter's life in Miami, with the expectations at work, Deb always one step behind his every move, his worst enemy and best friend all in one, and he can't get caught.. The stakes felt much higher back then.

The sequel I didn't know I wanted
26 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Im a huge fan of the trilogy. The intellectuality of it, but also the chemistry between Neo and Trinity. I was bummed when it ended how it did. But I never expected another movie.

I went into this completely unspoiled with no expectations. Didn't read any theories. Nothing. I'm so glad I didn't because I was able to enjoy it for exactly what it was. Which ended up being what I wanted all along: Neo and Trinity back together. Even better, alive! All is well that ends well.

Very grateful to Lana Wachowski for giving me this closure of happily ever after.

No complaints here. If anything, it makes me love the movies more.

Doctor Sleep is Rose the Hat
18 July 2020
I'm a massive fan of Stanley Kubrick's pictures, especially The Shining. I was very excited to see another director attempt to tread on such hallowed ground. And then to have it be Stephen King's words. Those are big shoes to fill.. But I wasn't disappointed. It just took me a few months and a few watches. Over two hours Is rough for some of us!

Score was perfect. Not jumpy. Most importantly, the tonality I felt like it was on point. Especially with certain actors. For me, the one that held and kept my attention the most was Rose the Hat. Best Stephen King villain easily. A true dichotomy. Attractive, charming, comforting, yet very violent and deviant. Extremely riveting to watch.

Rebecca Ferguson brought it all to life. It's mesmerizing to watch her. If anyone is channeling the incomparable Jack Nicholson's Jack Torrance, even Malcolm McDowell in Clockwork Orange, she is vibrating right on that frequency.

Hillary (2020)

Well-behaved women seldom make history!
11 March 2020
What your opinion of Hillary Rodham Clinton is says everything about you and nothing about her.

This docuseries fluidly brings together who Hillary is, what she's about, and how she's dealt with both elating and devastating life-changing events on the world stage. It exemplifies what's real and true about her. It's endearing to get to see Hillary and her life from an angle that hasn't been shown before. It's refreshing just to hear from her, let alone in such a raw open way. I don't want her to go away. I never did. I've always been with her.

She will go into history as one of the most influential females of her time. Her story is incredible and important. It deserves to be told. This series did a beautiful job.

Home is where the hell is
30 October 2016
Nothing is scarier than an isolated mind left to its own devices.

Eery. Original. Disturbing. It exemplifies how the passage of time and death are one and the same, the walls playing the part of witness and enemy. What's not seen is the substance of things either feared or hoped for. The evidence of things not seen shows scarier than actually seeing.

This picture is one for the books. A love letter to Hitchcock. A bonafide psychologically thrilling perfect nightmare. Because it's not just a scary movie that makes you jolt in your seat. It's a scary movie that'll make you curl into a corner and cry in terror. It's that unsettling sound of silence that lingers. Who knew walls could be so chilling and ominous?
