Glee (2009)
I'm like Tinkerbell Finn, I need applause to live!
Imagine Or maybe it's not necessary to imagine, when it comes to Glee – the one thing you've gotta do is turn on your TV when this show airs and within the first minute of every single episode you get pulled into this quirky, magical and yet a possible world of a typical American high school. Rachel Berry – a self proclaimed diva that attached a star next to her name whenever she writes it 'cause guess what – she's gonna be a star. But Rachel Berry is so much more than her huge ego . She is honest (most of the time), talented (undisputable) and even though she's an outsider she is well aware of what she wants to become and even more brave to try to accomplish it. Besides music, there is another thing she loves and that is Finn Hudson – the star of the football team and, what else, the boyfriend of the most popular cheerleader Quinn Fabray. It seems as one of so many stereotypical high school love stories but we soon find out Finn isn't so typical as he himself would like to be. Spanish teacher (and the new Glee director) Will Schuester blackmails Finn and gets him to join Glee and there Finn finds out he loves (and knows how to ) sing. He chooses the harder path and stays on Glee which means he is now in both worlds. The popular one and the gleeky one. He got stuck in the middle of it all and has to fight prejudice he once had himself. Finn maybe isn't one of the sharpest people but he makes it up with kindheartedness. He makes lots of mistakes, all of them do, but that's the main reason I do not mind the stereotypical roles they've all been given. Sometimes I'm annoyed with Finn's indecisiveness and lack of initiative but guess what, he's a 16 year old boy! Not to get into further details, all of the other characters are just as wonderful and just as interesting and fun. (Mercedes,Artie, Puck , Quinn, Kurt, Santana, Tina..all of them!) Quirky relationships aren't reserved for teenagers only. Sue Sylvester, the cheerleader coach is an evil force that has Glee on the top of her destroy" list ( or is it maybe Will Schuesters curly hair?!). Her every line and fight with Mr Schue turns into a comical exchange of insults and ridiculous threats. Humor is so refreshingly good that you must laugh out loud, and I don't remember when was the last time any TV show could do it to me. I have read that Ryan Murphy's goal was to write something positive. And he'd done it. Even though at times I'm annoyed at how quickly the characters can get in love and break up we forget that they are teenagers ( and teenagers are guided by a higher power called HORMONES!). Glee is more than just a comedy – music show, it really is a phenomenon. It is a mash up of good laughs, sweet romance, outstanding musical numbers but it also manages to deal with topics we are not used to dealing with on TV : homosexuality, bullying, teen pregnancy, physical disabilities. Any way you turn it, this show's got it. The undeniable talent of every single Glee cast member. They sing and dance, they act. It would seem that this show doesn't have a weak point except, the episodes don't last as long as I would want them to last. If you would just LISTEN to the show, it would be amazing. The only proof you need is the crazy good Glee soundtrack. And if you would just WATCH the show, you'd be drawn into it with the first drama that burdens our dear Gleeks. Besides the fact that we all should take are hats down to praise the cast and the crew because they are most probably the hardest working cast there is, it is simply very refreshing to see so many diverse talents under one roof that is Glee. These are the girls and guys that deserve the star status!
Do or Die (2001)
Outstanding drama
I have watched this mini series a long, long time ago. And never have I watched anything like it again. I loved every bit of it. The characters are very lifelike, realistic. It is not portrayed in black and white. They all have their virtues and their flaws. From the first minute of the series you are drawn into the plot. The best thing about it is that it'a a good entertainment for both male and female. It has crime and it has romance, and I cannot begin to tell you how thrilling it is. All of the actors give their great performances, but I have to say that Tom Long is really, really great in portraying a thief with a good heart. To anyone who wants to enjoy good TV, I sincerely recommend DO OR DIE.
Les chansons d'amour (2007)
This movie is a jewel
I highly recommend this movie to everyone who likes to watch romantic movies - but with one warning : this is a French movie which means there's nothing typical about it.
By now I have watched it a couple of times, and every time I discover one more layer to it.
The actors (always wonderful Louis Garrel, and the others also), the plot , Paris itself and the simply wonderful music ( after watching this you'll most certainly download the soundtrack)...I love everything about it.
I wish I could be in your place right now, and have the opportunity to watch this movie for the first time! If you like french movies - don't miss this one!
Friday Night Lights (2006)
Clear eyes, full hearts, can't loose!
This show is really something amazing, and I really do not exaggerate. I'm from Europe (which means that I am crazy about soccer, not football)and this TV series got me all fired up on football. You don't have to be a sports fanatic to love this show, it's characters, all the action and all the drama. And what a drama it is ! How did I find this series in the first place? Kyle Chandler is the answer. I loved him ever since he did Homefront. The thing I love the most about Friday night lights (besides Taylor Kitsch) is the kind of marriage that the Taylors have, the kind we forgot they existed.
can't wait for the final season!
