Goliath: Tongue Tied (2018)
A REAL WORLD ENDING
The ending of Goliath was as much as could be expected in the world we live in. Politics, corruption and crime does go on and on. I think the ending was real and appropriate. Others may have been looking for that good old feeling of proper justice applied and were disappointed. Well....it wasn't a blockbuster season ending but probably seeds some of the plot for season 3. I will be watching for it.
White Collar (2009)
Worth the time.
A Review WHITE COLLAR TV Series (2009–2014)
The way I watch a TV series is to binge watch the entire series at my leisure. You never miss an episode and you can see at any point, if it is worth your time to continue with it. White Collar was worth it. I would have quit it after a few episodes due to the enormous plot holes, tortured twists, conjured timing and all around TV-ness with it's lack of inventive camera work, boring cinematography, etc., but not everyone is as demanding as me. Having said that, the primary reason I was able to see all 81 episodes to the end was chemistry. Matt Bomer, Tim DeKay and Willie Garson worked amazingly well together, each of them at the top of the food chain at what their characters do. Throw in Tiffani Thiessen who sort of ties them all together into one big rogue family and the heart of the cast is complete. Garson keeps it funny and inventive in spite of his total lack of acting ability but the quirky charm he exudes is convincing, and that is enough. It is inventive and complicated enough to hold interest. It's funny, sad, manipulative and has some incite without being too predictable. Ross McCall, a repeating villain, steals the show whenever he pops up to ruin someone's day. I recommend this show to anyone who likes FBI vs brilliant bad guys into high stakes white collar crime that can get very messy, very quickly. GOT Netflix?!!
Criminal Minds: Mosley Lane (2010)
Good Direction, Great Performance
Matthew Grey Gubler's direction was good for a first timer. The locations were OK but a bit weak. I like that in season 5 the unsubs were revealed early on like some other good crime shows. It tends to let us in on the unsub's character and allows him/her to develop properly. It gives a weight to the creep of the moment and allows us to appreciate the return scene at BAU. This episode had the added advantage of Ann Cusak's wonderful performance in humanizing the tragedy but Gubler's direction here failed to distinguish between her drunken state and later, when she was sober. More clarity would have been appreciated. One other thing about this episode is that unlike all the rest of them there was no clear reason that was stated or inferred as to why the children were abducted to begin with. A clear departure from what makes CM stand out against other shows of this type. All in all I gave it an 8 because of Cusak's really good performance and the structure that was built in to that final bitter sweet scene of the reunion at the end that confuses happiness with sadness. One of the best yet.
