Knucklehead (2010)
Felt like a Remake Nacho Libre
I wasn't expecting much from this movie a typical comedy with a famous wrestling star. It Felt like a remake Nacho Libre. What did surprise me was The Big Shows performance, His emotions in it really felt sincere this chap CAN actually act in fact i would go as far as saying he would make a better actor than one of his wrestling performance acts. its not a side splitting movie but does have its moments. In all, The actors did a good job, The cast was good. The comedy was funny in parts, the story wasn't anything new though. in all a well acted fun family movie not just aimed at wrestling fans as in fact there is not actually a lot of wrestling in it which i am actually glad of as when there was wrestling scenes it was the poorest performance of acting in the movie. You certainly wouldn't think of big show as a professional wrestler, yes the scenes were that bad!. Move over Mr Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) there's a new wrestling actor in town.
I would rate @ 6.5
Monsters (2010)
a bit like watching your football team reach a final then lose
A low budget film with promise that leaves you a little disappointed It actually felt like it was made up from other movies namely cloverfield, predator & District 9. The only reason in my eyes this film gets such good reviews is the fact it was done on a very low budget of $15'000 if this was a $50'000'000 budget film i swear it would flop. I didn't dislike the movie i was just disappointed it felt a bit like watching your football team reach a final then lose on penalties. You appreciate that the manager(Director) and players (Actors) got to the final and didn't play badly neither was managed badly but you know a few changes could of made all the difference. I would like to stress its not a baaaad movie, but neither would i have it on a must see list. The kind of movie you don't hate but wouldn't watch again. It should of been less of a love story and more of a what if.
Shank (2010)
Not a great movie, but worth a watch if you like this sort of thing
I watched this movie with Kidulthood, Adulthood in mind and its not quite on par with noel Clark's productions. I can honestly say i was a little disappointed with some of the characters mainly Kicks (adam deacon), i really enjoyed his performances in kidulthood, Adulthood. However he doesn't shine in this movie like he did in his previous performances. This isn't down to bad acting it was down to screen time he just seemed to be in the background. however Craze (Michael Socha) performance did make up for this in my eyes "bloody northern monkey". The cgi in the movie was poor to say the least, You could see what he was trying to do but the budget must of been way off what he wanted & looked more like something from the 80's. Obviously the writer didn't want to go the "usual" London gangster flick route. Instead it is set in the future (2015) Which for me didn't quite work. I would of much preferred a more real to life story. Be warned if you don't/cant understand London lingo then this will leave you trying to understand what is being said and will just sound like gobble de gook. Even with this in mind i am still going to give this movie a 6/10 just because i enjoy inner city gang films. So to sum up the casting & performances were good including the "New boy." The story was mediocre. the OST was good.
My top 10 Gangster/London Flicks 1.Rise of The Footsoldier, 2.Kidulthood, 3.Bullet Boy, 4.Adulthood, 5.Rock 'n' Rolla, 6.Harry Brown, 7.Sugarhouse, 8.Shank, 9.Essex Boys, 10.Cass
