To be fair I already watched the excellent synopsis from Veritasium and others on youtube. If it were the 2000's and youtube wouldn't exist I would give this one an 8/10.
But this is a movie that didn't use ANY CGI at all. Literally. None. The whole atomic bomb explosion was grotesque to watch, given my background in nuclear physics.
Even when they showed how Oppenheimer learned about the Hiroshima the director chose to not show any pictures of it.
It's a bizzare account of history, with a few shortcuts to not stretch it out even further. It's bizzarre because it shows nothing about the war or world or state of the world but just bits and pieces scrambled together from files in the archives of the USA.
So incredibly boring and incredibly bad to be fair. But Nolan wouldn't have gotten the funding for the movie if investors couldn't be sure there are enough followers and Boomers who cherish stuff like "100% NO CGI".
Lastly there is no coherent story. It's chronologically coherent as you would expect from history. In the end, the big channels on Youtube (>5 Million subs) have covered Oppenheimer the person one much better and with higher accuracy. Of course they would have never covered this without the hypewagon created by the Oppenheimer marketing department. It's a catch21.
