Invasion: Earth (1998)
Great mini series a cult must see
I Really enjoyed the way the story turned out. Another series would have ruined it.I liked the way the aliens came from another dimention and not in spaceships or carrying laser weapons like the stereo typical E.T. "al a independence day" alien does.
I liked the way the only American involvement was Fred Ward's US NATO commander investigating the Pilot Vincent Regan. The thing i liked the most about this series was how every attempt to destroy the aliens was futile and in the end the only way to win was to destroy (ourselves) the land and sacrifice the innocent people which just goes to show how desperate things were getting for us humans.
This was a really well thought out and intellegent show and the action and script racheted up the tension as everything they tried to do eventually failed and the frustration that they felt knowing this.
I thought the ending was great, everything they had tried failed, the only thing they had left was to nuke the ND's and themselves. The implications of this are horrific for mankind and the characters knew this.
I see lots of people across the atlantic slated this because they were expecting the good guys to win and the ND's to lose and didn't understand why it ended so abruptly with the humans nuking themselves. I think that it would probably be more realistic and has a much greater impact on me the viewer then if we beat the ND's and lived in a much safer united world "al a independance day".
But then in America, you hardly ever see a film or TV program where the
good guys lose and the bad guys win.
Can't wait to see it again in a re-run and might even get it on DVD A great piece of Cult British Sci Fi and ranks along side Quatermass.

A great must see underrated brit film
I saw this film one night with two of my best friends, Lee a.k.a Big-Monkey and Mark a.k.a Tintin and we enjoyed it so much, it had everything in it, but more to the point, we could relate to the characters in it and in some sense we each looked like them, we had the same characteristics as the characters we used to do the same sorts of jobs at them i.e. we used to work for tesco and do other night time jobs, after work we'd go to a bar or club, we all slept with each others girlfriends at some point or another and betrayed each other only to still remain friends at the end of it all. To me, this film is a slice of reality, my reality and thats why i like it so much because it captured moments and situations from my life, our lifes so well.
This film came so close to the truth as being like me and my friends the only other films to feel like this was Human Traffic and Trainspotting.
I don't expect the American audience to understand but if you can relate your life to the lyrics in music then surely you can do the same thing with films and books and songs and words too.
The acting was great The script was great Everything about this film was great A must see underrated laugh a min film espesh if your British.

Renegade Force (1998)
Great hard as nails movie
I really enjoyed this film having caught it on Channel 5. Both times it was on I missed the start.
Please note this film was also known as "Six Angry Men" over here in the UK.
Michael Rooker is a really underrated actor and this is another underrated film. It's as hard as nails. SWAT Cops kill bad guys, FBI HRT Kill SWAT Cops not before lots of SWAT Cops kill cops and FBI Guys.
You have to see this movie its as Rooker is as hard as nails and Patrick is the perfect choice for the leader of bad guys. This film will have you on the edge of your seat all the way through.

Angel Heart (1987)
The best film of all time a must see movie
I loved this film the moment i saw it with my old mate Andy Hubs back in the days when we were on the dole with little to do except check the narrative discourse on films and get stoned. The film had been deleted at the time. I loved it so much that I borrowed his copy for 4 years and returned it at his request when he upsticks and moved to Amsterdam. A few years later they re-released it on video and then on DVD.
Micky Rorke was made for this film and Lisa Bonet is supersexy as ususal. It's a cross between a Mike Hammer detective story and and a horror film. The clues are scattered all over the story and are in the films title. The name of the film Angel Heart gives it all away but only at the end of the movie.
Angel Heart (first clue) ------------------------ Harry Angel (Second Clue), scuzzy New Orleans detective is hired by a Louis Cypher, (Third Clue) on what seems to be an ordinary job to find big band crooner Johnny Favorite.
As Harry investigates he becomes implicated in the murders of the people he interviews for leads on the where abouts of the big band Crooner Johnny.
However, as his investigations get deeper and deeper, to his horror Harry, finally realises who Johnny Favorite really is.
