Angels Sing (2013)
Enjoyable, hug-your-family Christmas movie!
Angels Sing was a lovely, whimsical comedy-with-tear-jerker moments.
Yes it was predictable, but it was a lovely Christmas movie which I am now going to add to our ever-increasing Christmas movie family extravaganza!
Having all the musicians in the movie could have been a bit more prominent, (I would have loved to hear HC Jr show us some of his amazing Christmas singing), but nevertheless I loved the music, which was fresh and not the overdone usual Christmas classics.
Give this movie a chance! I think you'll be hugging your family on the couch, and making up your own version of the 12 Days of Christmas!
Joyful Noise (2012)
Music is good, shame about the plot
The music was good...unfortunately that's the best I can say.
It was a shame this movie felt like a bunch of music-loving people trying to do a "cover-version" of a church choir without visiting a church to check out what they can really do.
Unnecessary to have a one-night stand feature in the movie, probably why the movie got the PG-13 rating.
Script is a bit over the top clichés, and very predictable in parts. Dolly Parton and Queen Latifah's strange feud just gets annoying.
Jeremy Jordan and Keke Palmer sing really well, and I'd expect to see more of them in the future. Jeremy could be the next Zac Efron, and it was fun to look up IMDb to find out Keke was the lead in Akeelah and the Bee (which is a great movie by the way).
Enjoy the music, but don't expect TOO much more.
Blessed (2008)
Sweet, moving film
My wife and I stumbled across this movie purely by chance, liked the fact that James Nesbitt was the main actor and gave it a try - so glad we did.
This is a refreshingly innocent and moving film which inspired us to love our children more.
There's a lot of humour mixed in with a gentle tale of loss and love. Despite the fact that there's not much dialogue it isn't the least bit boring, and Nesbitt gives a winning performance.
We turned this film on intending to watch half of it and go to bed, but ended up watching the whole movie until 1.25am!
Do yourself a favour - if you are looking for a sweet but not cheesy story give Blessed a go.
Skyline (2010)
Stay at home, save your cash - don't be tempted even to rent this!!
When our friends took my wife and me out to see this movie I was a little bit excited - I love sci-fi, and had been tempted by a trailer which showed some pretty cool alien ships and some news footage warning us about sending NASA probes into far space for fear of attracting who- knows-what.
I wish I'd stopped watching after the trailer...
No plot... so many unanswered questions.... no discernible point to the movie at all. I wish I could post spoilers just to save you the frustration we felt, and stop you from thinking, "It can't have been that bad!"
IT WAS!! I wish they could have finished the story! It felt like there was another 45-60 minutes required to finish-the-story!! We all felt like the makers of the movie ran out of money and decided just to call it a day, make a cool trailer and hope for the best.
One good point of Skyline - the aliens looked cool....
I've not written a review on IMDb before, but I felt compelled to put fingers to keyboard to vent a little of my frustration.
Go see something else, give your money to charity, or even drop your money off a bridge somewhere... it'll feel better - honest.
