Clint's best
21 October 2018
What looks like a romance novel at first is actually literally that. But if you willing to go with it you get some of the best stuff in that area. Totally broke my heart. Eastwood is the freaking man.

200% crazy cult fun

Sitges Film Festival Review

This film rocks so much! A total blast! Crazy creative and passionate. At least 40 minutes too long though. But whatever. The end climax is madness. Loved it.

Wtf is everybodys problem?
18 October 2018
The movie is not even close as bad as the user reviews are making it out to be. Seriously. There are syfy channel productions with a higher rating. And this is way above them. Nice idea, super clean cinematography (even though I normally don't like it like this) and the actress is also "ok". Sure there are cringe moments. But for a sci-fi TV movie that was all pretty much as passionate as it gets.

Yes it got recut erc. But hell, it's still a total crazy and bonkers blast of style, satire and Bud Cord.

Watched this after being at the city Sitges myself. It's a cute movie that captures the place. That's all I wanted from it

A prank
14 October 2018
I think the whole thing is clearly a prank from Lurie. But at the same time it is totally beautiful in it's weirdness. I loved it. And Lurie and Jarmusch together are a black humor force anyway.

Stylish

Loved the suburban setting and the overall style. He nailed a specific mood. And that was the intention and the overall goal. Please more.

Brooding, cold and warm. Very personal. Does not completely work, but that does not matter. It's a diary entry.

Cute

Sitges Film Festival Review

Yes cute! Because you feel that it's the directors passion in every minute of the film. If you like it or not.

More Warhol than Wasteland

Sitges Film Festival Review

That's why I like Sitges. It's like russian roulette. One moment you watch some samurai movie from the 70s and two hours later you suddenly find yourself in a warholesque movie like this one. I really dug it. Crazy unique and crafted with a lot of passion. It helped that attending director and team where very likable as well though.

Sitges Film Festival Review

After Love and the amazing but way too long Enter the Void, I feel like people where a bit concerned when it came to NOE. But boy, that should be gone now. Climax is a small movie that punches hard.

Amazing how LVT still get's new ideas after all this time
13 October 2018
Sitges Film Festival Review

Looking back at LVT's work you have to respect him for never giving up his journey to find new ways of pushing himself. It is not possible to pinpoint his "peak". Was it around the time of Dogma and Breaking the Waves? Or is it now? Think about that. Pretty amazing.

THTJB feels very personal. I think this might be an autobiography of LVT's inside the last few years, repacked as a movie about somebody else. And based on the humour in the movie it also shows that LVT is in a good stage of his own healing process. (If you read into his state of mind and health during Antichrist and Melancholia, you know what I am talking about).

Is it too long? Does it go to far in a trashy way sometimes? Yes to both. Does it bother? No. The movie is a blast just like Man bites Dog is.

Good intentions. Bad execution.
13 October 2018
Sitges Film Festival Review

Story, Setting, Characters, Mood etc. are all pretty cool on paper. I think the pure script of the movie is pretty awesome. Sadly the version shown at the Sitges Film Festival did not manage to put these elements together as one flowing film. It felt unfinished in many aspects. The heart is at the very right place. But the execution did not do it justice.

David Gordon Greens body of work is confusing
13 October 2018
Sitges Film Festival Review

As the title says, I am pretty confused with the directors overall body of work. He started out with indie stuff that even got the Criterion Collection treatment. And then there are things like Annanas Express and Your Highness as well. And now a Halloween remake/sequel. Maybe my brain is just not wired in a way where this body of work makes sense to me. (It would be less confusing if there would not be this little indie gems in-between) And I also can't make out a directors habndwriting in all of these different directions. What is a DGG movie? His comedy movies could have made by just anyone. Then again, maybe I should read more into Green as well first.

With this said let's talk Halloween. Again, I can't see a clear directors take on it. Especially compared with the Rob Zombie ones. But maybe that's a good thing that everybody wanted? I was surprised by the lack of the directors own voice. But I was also surprised that the movie did not bother me as a remake/reboot/sequel/whatever. It kinda really captures what the first movie was about. So good job DGG I guess.

Season 1: Amazing! Season 2: rushed
8 June 2018
I loves season 1. It was super interesting and entertaining. And it was critical enough. Season 2 feels a bit rushed and more like a commercial for the toys. Anyway, pretty great that this got made and I hope they continue the series, even if the theme songs says it's just 8 episodes.

Well ...
20 November 2017
... I guess Adam Yauch & Co had a blast filming this. And that's actually totally fine. I just expected a bit more subtle humor. Maybe having Spike Jonze on set as a helping hand would have done wonders. But whatever. Not the highlight in the Beastie Boys portfolio. More like a skit in a mediocre comedy show. Only that this one is 20 minutes long and starring the (otherwise genius) David Cross. Maybe I was also expecting that it does tie in more with the fake directors persona of Yauch, and it just doesn't at all. It's just ... there.

:(
20 November 2017
I was really looking forward to this. But it was just all over the place with no real idea of what it want's to be. And it did not helped that it looked like an episode of Dawsons Creek. :(

The intro was meant well. But it was totally off in timing and in play with the music. I mention this, because it kinda summarizes the whole movie. But great poster though.

Edit 45 minutes out and you have a masterpiece
20 November 2017
I hate to give a NOE movie any less then an 8 rating. Especially a movie like this, that is so unique. But boy was it way to long to enjoy. The excitement and fascination just got kinda choked out of me while watching. Which is a shame. because there is a masterpiece in there.

And on that note a shout out to "short" art-house films like "Daft Punk's Electroma" and "The Tracy Fragments".

Oh boy. I wanted to like this. But it just feels not honest.
20 November 2017
The title actually says it all. I feel like this is the outcome of a brainstorm with the main goal to please Hipsters. Get VICE to produce. Put in Burgers, Skateboards, long camera shots (but not long enough to be art-house, just long enough to be wannabe edgy) and of course Die Antwoord in the soundtrack. Oh and neon boomboxes and scene that rips off Vincent Gallo's DJ scene in Kasper Hauser. It just all feels fake and constructed. Not honestly hip like Harmony Korine who just doesn't give a f***

But this all said, it's still better to have a failed movie like this featured on Netflix then another Season of some over-hyped series. So kudos to all the supporters of high budget Indie movies like this.
