the anatomy of a marriage
14 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The protagonist is a renowned writer who has written some best-selling books based on her real life. Her husband is a teacher who wants to be a full-time writer like his wife. From my perspective, they are a pretty happy couple with high-class jobs and a great house, even though their son has some disability in his eyes. Indeed, happiness is very subjective; that much goes without saying.

Viewers find them struggling financially, which might be caused by prior migration, special care for the son, etc. One day, the husband tries renovating an attic to utilize as an Airbnb space while the wife meets a young woman on the lower floor. Actually, the meeting is masqueraded as an interview, but the wife flirts with the interviewer, an undergraduate. As a result, he started blaring music, especially implying a misogynistic message, even though the song was covered as an instrumental by another band. Although the song has no lyrics, everybody knows what the song means. Finally, the meeting is interrupted and is stopped while promising the next meeting at another place.

The very after moment, a tragic incident occurred when the son came back home with his dog. The husband was discovered dead, bleeding in front of the house. The rest of the story is about to investigate the reason for the death. Due to the secluded location of the house, the wife becomes a highly probable suspect, and all mediums want to cover the trial process. Meanwhile, the son emerges as a sole witness because he has watched conflicts between the couple. The critical point is whether there is circumstantial evidence that the wife wants to kill her husband. Interestingly, the son doesn't testify the truth, but considering the aftermath of the trial.

This film makes me think about the meaning of marriage and family. During everyday life, family members live as if there is nothing a big deal between one another while accumulating bits and pieces of resentment. Even a tiny disdain can trigger the detonator to collapse.

How old is she?
10 February 2024
When I read the original book, Foster, the girl in my imagination was way younger than the protagonist in this film. Therefore, I struggle with indulging in this excellent adaptation at first. It was definitely challenging to integrate the novel into a visual work, considering the book was written as a first-person narrative. As a result, the film's scenario is slightly different from the original. If you haven't read Forster yet, I'd like to recommend watching this without reading the book. The cinematography and performances were really great. In my opinion, if the director had filmed it as a short film, the result would have been more remarkable.

Two Girls
18 July 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This movie took place a suburban in the US. Two upper teenage girls live in prosperous circumstances. Lily is an ordinary girl, and Amanda is a kind of sociopath who killed her horse brutally in more younger age. They are getting close as a friend, so they're changing to resemble more and more from each other's characteristic.

As a result, Lily has a cruel heart, and Amanda gains a sympathy. Finally, Lily decides to kill her stepfather. Furthermore, she put the blame on Amanda who called the sociopath. Perhaps there is no more perfect alibi. And Amanda accepts the suspicion without any explanation.

Thoroughbreds mean hybrid houses for races, and it seems to be a kind of a metaphor of two girls. This movie was an entry of the Sundance movie festival last year. But I think it's a little vulnerable as a well-made thriller. There is a well-made movie called Stoker which an adolescent wants to kill her mother's guy, was directed by Chan-wook Park.

The most valuable this very moment
5 July 2018
It was quite impressive. I didn't know him well though he is a well-known artist. He is fighting against cancer. So he wanted to complete a better masterpiece as much as possible without regret when he died. Even though he had not recovered, he accepted him to compose original soundtracks for the movie, The Revenant. He couldn't refuse the request because he is respecting the director named Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu. After watching, I thought about what I should do every day. As well as, I realized that how valuable time at this very moment.
