It's kind of cool how they made THE HULK look like an on screen, live action comic book. I don't think I've seen any of Ang Lee's other movies, but he did a fantastic job as director of this one. This film is much, much better than the 2008 reboot (which is titled THE INCREDIBLE HULK, and of the two, this one is definitively the incredible one), and it is much more intense. It begins as a life story, in superhero style, and when it has ended, it has already had its two hours and eighteen minutes to blow your mind. But that's the one thing that I don't like about THE HULK: it runs a little long. I guess we deserve something in the superhero sub-genre that's actually UN-superficial like this.

The big thing about this is that this is the one film where you should not look at the critics' reviews before watching it. Rotten Tomatoes averaged up 40% of critics liking it, and Metacritic's averaged score is currently 42 out of 100. Both, all in all, are mixed or average scores. This is definitely not your average comedy/drama in any way, shape, or form. If anything, it deserves an Oscar. Maybe not Jack Nicholson--it's easy to admit that he does not give his best performance; plus he had an easy role to deal with--but Morgan Freeman definitely should have won the Oscar for Best Actor. He was smart, funny, witty, clever, and lovable. If the Academy didn't want that, what a pity.

I thought BATMAN was really good. I would have given it a 9 out of 10, but the fact that Michael Keaton's acting as the titular character was overly generic (i.e. Bat-mobile, Bat-cave, Bat-hook, Bat-plane) brings it down 2 whole grades. Another thing to comment on is the Joker (Jack Nicholson). He was well acted, and the creepy laugh was fantastically rehearsed, but somehow, it has been proved that NO Joker can top Heath Ledger's Joker in THE DARK KNIGHT (2008). (I say that without seeing BATMAN RETURNS or any of the other sequels, because I don't need to. SPOILER: The Joker dies in this film, so it would be anti-climactic to put him in BATMAN RETURNS, ... FOREVER, or ... & ROBIN.) Overall, I recommend this. It was very, very good.
