An Inspiring Family Film
8 August 2013
A wonderful, inspiring family film that connects at every level. Oh, if there were only more films made like this, instead of the tasteless garbage that passes as family fare these days. Brendan Routh, a fellow Iowan, is wonderful to watch and does a marvelous, homey, down-to-earth turn from his role as Superman, and the young Native American lacrosse players blossom into fine actors before our eyes. I have only been slightly interested in lacrosse before this movie; I am now a convert and will be watching this truly native American sport whenever I have the chance. I watched this film with a huge smile on my face throughout and a growing pride in my -- as Routh would say -- "watered down" Native American heritage. Rent it,buy it, or download it, but enjoy it!

A great, even-handed documentary of a very contentious election.
10 October 2011
The producers of this documentary are to be commended for their even- handed approach in covering the voting in Ohio during the 2004 presidential election. It is easy for either side in the process to hurl charges that the other side "smeared" their candidate (Kerry's activities after he returned from Vietnam did leave him vulnerable to the eventual Swift Boat attacks, regardless of whether one considers him a war hero) and Bush did serve honorably in the Air National Guard, despite charges he avoided the draft -- if he avoided the draft, how did he then manage to end up in a military unit?). Each side was guilty of hyperbole, inaccuracies, half lies, but -- unfortunately -- that's what passes for politics these days. The trick is to sort through all this muck and tell an accurate, balanced story presenting the point of view from both sides. That the producers were able to do this in recounting the emotionally charged election in Ohio is nothing less than remarkable. I use this video in my American government classes, precisely because it is a balanced look at the realities of 2004.

Wonderful New Chapter
5 January 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Having just seen this movie, I walked away feeling most gratified that the producers and director have stayed true to C.S. Lewis theme, as evidenced by Aslan's wonderful line towards the end of the film: "I am known by a different name in your world." This is a most worthy sequel. Whether intended as a conclusion to a trilogy, or simply whetting our appetites for more films in the series, it left this reviewer thoroughly sated. And, unlike others, I found the 3D effects outstanding. I'm not one of those who feels you have to have swords thrusting at the screen, etc to enjoy the full benefit of 3D. Here the technology is used to add richness and depth to the extraordinary visual effects. For those who love C.S. Lewis series, this movie will definitely NOT disappoint.
