Plot holes and lack of attention to detail
21 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Opening scene ...lead female standing with "body armor" on, she does not have ballistic plates in the carrier vest. Neither do the two press people she is assigned to protect. They are then attacked the lead is armed with a pistol only and manages to get a rifle and then discards the rifle before they are completely safe. The idea behind the movie is great and could have been fantastic, however they have some many leaps and holes in this that it is a failure. It is on Netflix so is sorta free to watch with a subscription so take a evening and have a watch for yourself but be prepared for poor connections in the story line.

Powerful
24 December 2015
I went to this movie not expecting much of anything. I had no real opinion either way about the subject nor the film itself. I left completely moved by the power of this story and the sadness of these events. The most moving part of this film is afterward when the screen goes black. The next thing shown are three full screens full of a list. I will not say more.

Go see this film. The actors do a fantastic job of telling this story and the power of the events surrounding Boston in 2001. I was in the film and was sitting next to a women that could not hide her emotions and afterward I was unable to keep mine in check. To imagine the things that happened and had been happening surrounding the Catholic Church for decades and decades.

A very good film

Warning: Spoilers
I am finding it harder and harder to trust the public's choices of movies. Giving this film such a low score is so incredibly wrong. Were there a few flaws? Yes. There are flaws in EVERY film EVER made. So why someone would be hung up on the girl using her gloved hands to operate a touch screen or the lack of explanation of the second truck they drove, is unexplainable. Overall this was a fantastic story and a wonderful film. The hope and the inspiration that is built into this story is great, I just wish that the world could see it instead of being so negative. I have to fill in some space here so I am going to say that I liked this film just in case the people reading this are to stupid to understand that in less than 10 lines. I sure hope they are not. IMDb seems to think they are they also think that I cannot explain my views of a movie in less then 10 lines.

Rated 8 until the end Which gave it a 4 overall. Miss the last 20 Minutes and you will be better off.

Warning: Spoilers
This is a two part review of the movie. The first part I am giving the movie an 8. I thought the movie extremely well done until the last 20 minutes. The acting and the passion that these people showed in there desire to give the best performance possible was palpable. I was drawn into this world and became concerned with these peoples lives.

Edward Norton's portrayal of the self centered ego-maniacal actor who is a terrible person but a fantastic actor was complete in all ways.

Michael Keaton played the part of a has-been actor grabbing for glory and afraid of his own mortality in a manor that allowed me to believe that he was in fact Riggan Thomson.

The supporting cast all played their roles very well. However, Emma Stone as Sam Thomson was the least believable of the performances.

The view of the inside of Riggan's head was well done and brought to life the struggle he was having with his dying career and his inevitable death.

The 4 star rating comes from the last 20 minutes or so of the film. From the moment we see Riggan on the ledge of the building after having his dream crushed the movie becomes predictable. The only unpredictable part of the end was how long we were forced to sit and suffer. The flying scene that did not end in his death did not seem to be the same film I had been watching. The director seemed to have lacked a convincing way to end the movie and it showed. Each time you think the movie is over it just keeps going. After it keeps going it gets worse each time. Until finally at the end Sam looks out the window and looks up as if she can see her father flying like a Birdman.

This fantastic movie was ruined in less than 20 minutes. Sadly not the first 20 or I could have gone home and done anything else. Instead I wasted over two hours.

Inherent Vice (2014)

Mind-boggling
12 January 2015
This is a fantastic movie with spectacular acting. When I first saw the trailer for this I thought "pass" and then went to see this for lack of anything better to do and because some good people invited me. It was a great choice to go see, I would have missed one of the best movies to come out this year. The story is about a stoner P.I. and his quest to help his ex-girlfriend figure out what to do about her married lover and his cheating wife and all his money.

Many times just as I thought I was catching on to what was happening and had figured out where the movie was going it suddenly took a left turn and went down a completely different yet more strange and bizarre path then it had already been on.

Joaquin Phoenix plays his character so well it is hard to believe he is not truly Sportello. He seems to have become a 70's hippie in every sense.

Owen Wilson gives a lack-luster performance that seems as if he has made no real effort. His one spot of greatness comes at the 'Spotted Dick' party but that is all. The rest of the time you are not at all interested in his character.

Josh Bolin has outdone himself in his role as Lt. Christian F 'Bigfoot' Bjornsen. I was never quite sure of the real relationship he and Sportello actually had. Antaganistic but at the same time partners and even it seems friends (almost).

Katherine Waterson's character Shasta Fey Hepworth is mysterious and alluring. She seems to always be about to reveal the truth of what is happening yet never does.

In the end this movie will only disappoint you if you are expecting to see a straight mystery set in the 70's. However, if you go into the theater with no preconceived ideas and with an open mind ready to listen and allow the actors to take you on a fantastic ride you will come out wishing you could meet Sportello and hoping you never have a run in with 'Bigfoot'.

Dumb but not in a funny way
26 June 2014
Useless waste of my time and money. There were maybe three spots that were funny. Most of it was old regurgitated jokes. Black people complain about 'token blacks' and then do EXACTLY the same thing with a white guy. Couple of places I was bored to the point of yawning.

Kevin Hart failed so badly that I was surprised when I heard this made a lot of money in the first weekend.

The first one was hilarious and I laughed all the way through. I barely was able to stay in the theater for this one.

They should have spent more money on the script and more time.

This movie was so bad that I have run outta things to say about it but I have to fill space because for reasons unknown the webmaster thinks a review has to be at least a certain length.

The Last Ship (2014–2018)

Seen better

Warning: Spoilers
The science part has holes you could only miss if you meant to make yourself look stupid. Example, airborne virus' would be able to contaminate the bio-suits and they would need to dis-infect them after use and they would need to dis- infect the canned food items. Sure they may have done that and not shown it but they did not dis-infect the fuel hose they hauled from the contaminated ship and touch barehanded on their ship. Also they would need to stay up wind of the ship at all times. This was the most glaring issue. There were many others. Overall the story line is good and the actors did a good job. I will likely watch the next episode and then decide if I am going to continue to watch the show.
