One of Us Is Lying (2021)
Read the book! It's WAY better
Don't get me wrong. The TV show had some good moments that they pulled from the book, and I realize why they changed some things (in order for it to work as a series). But overall, the show was really a subpar version of the book. I feel like the acting was not very believable from most of the cast. I feel like they revealed Cooper being gay WAY too early. That was a big reveal in the book about a third of the way through. I also think they totally got the casting wrong for Bronwyn. Not very believable. I also feel like Nate and Bronwyn's romance was a huge element of the book. And their characters playing them had no chemistry. And then them killing Jake and covering up his murder. Come on! Really? Oh well. Definitely read the book. It's way better.
Ordinary Joe (2021)
Kinda Boring
I've watched the first 3 episodes and I'm not feeling it. It can be a "tad" confusing of which timeline you are watching. But the real problem for me is that I don't care for most of the characters. I tried to give it a chance, but I'm just not into it. A lot of good tv shows are being canceled and this what is being offered? I'll pass.
Last Man Standing: The Two Nieces of Eve (2021)
Finally a good episode this season
This was a great episode, not just because Eve was in it. But it had a lot of heart, and it felt like how the episodes used to be. Best episode of the season so far.
The Walking Dead: One More (2021)
Solid episode
I've come to peace that this set of episodes are all going to be fillers (understandable with the pandemic and all). The last 2 episodes were so-so. But I really enjoyed this episode. Not because it necessarily builds to the main storyline, but as a stand-alone episode. It gave the spotlight to 2 overlooked characters on the show, the dialogue was great, and the suspense in the end was very good as well. And the addition of Robert Patrick was icing on the cake for sure. One of the best episodes in a while
WandaVision: The Series Finale (2021)
Meh...
It was an ok wrap up for the show. It just seemed like a lot of buildup to a somewhat blah ending. I guess I was expecting something a little better, but it wasn't the worst I guess
Captain Marvel (2019)
Ok movie, she's just missing that "it factor" that makes so many of our heroes lovable
I will preface this with that I didn't hate the movie. SLJ's performance is probably what carried this movie for me. Ben Mendelsohn and Jude Law did relatively "ok" in their roles, but I wasn't very impressed to be honest. The storyline was ok. I did love all of the 90s jokes and references.
My biggest beef with this movie is Captain Marvel herself. It's nothing at all with her being a female superhero. I think that's great. I love a lot of our current female heroes in cinema like Black Widow, Gamora, Scarlet Witch, Wonder Woman, etc. And I think Brie Larson is an excellent actress in general. However, her role did not do it for me. It was lacking character, and it was missing that "it factor" that we love about so many of our other heroes.
First, I love Marvel and most things they have been doing in cinema for superheroes. However, this particular character seemed too forced. One thing I have enjoyed about the Marvel films, is the way they typically integrate a character into their franchise. It usually happens organically. This was not the case in my opinion.
Second: For as much power as they gave her, and how much they have banking on her future in this franchise, I think they should have gave her more personality. Because if she is the future of Marvel and the Avengers (aka 7 movie deal), this fan of the franchise is not very excited. I honestly did not love her character. Her personality seemed dull, and just not lovable like the other characters. As said earlier, Brie Larson is an excellent actress, and I don't blame her. The writing was the issue. They were too busy trying bridge a gap for the next step in the films, that they lost that magic of being able to write an excellent protagonist. Unfortunately, her role was carried by the supporting cast.
Last of all, I typically leave the theaters after a Marvel film with a sense of excitement, looking for to seeing the character's next appearance in another movie. I instead left with a sense of dread. I've heard it said that her role is supposed to be the next Robert Downey Jr for the franchise. If this is so, they better do something different with her character. Otherwise things are going to get rough for Marvel's future in film. Will they still have fans? Of course. But will they lose quite a few due to boredom? I believe so
The Walking Dead: What Comes After (2018)
Excellent Episode
Great send off for Rick' role on the series. One of the best episodes I've seen in a while. Bringing things full circle was cool. I also loved that scene with Rick and Shane. It was probably my favorite scene of the episode. Excited to see where Rick's story goes next.
Overall, it was an excellent episode
