Family Guy (1999)
The more I watch this show, the less I like it.
It certainly beats Friends, or Everybody Loves Raymond, but Family Guy doesn't hold a candle to wonderful animated shows like: the Simpsons, King of the Hill, Beavis and Butthead, and South Park. I realize that they are all different shows with only the animation in common, but the quality is different.
The difference is characters that you can warm up to. I actually feel a little sorry for Beavis when I see him be slapped by Butthead. The situations you see the Hill family in are very personal, private and intimate; you can't help but think that they're a family you actually know. The South Park children are endearing and entertaining. If a giant anvil fell on the Griffin house, I wouldn't care.
After watching the DVDs of the first through third seasons the first time, I loved it. The nostalgia was great, thinking about all of the pop culture references from when I grew up. But, after a second or third viewing, it got old, and quickly.
The only good character on the show is Brian, but he's not enough to carry the whole show, especially when every other episode he sings show tunes.
Not my cup of tea.
American Pie (1999)
Not my favorite.
My comments and feelings about this movie are best summed up by the sarcastic sentiments of Sideshow Bob from the Simpsons:
"That was a well-plotted piece of non-claptrap that never made me want to retch."
Where should I begin? I've never liked teen movies, but I decided to give this one a chance. Why? My friends, who normally have very good taste in movies, highly recommended it. Needless to say, I've never trusted their opinion on any movie ever again. While they sat, enjoyed the movie, and laughed, I rolled my eyes and checked my watch.
Is having sex with a pie supposed to be funny? Are the raging libidos of a group of teen-aged boys a good focal point for a movie plot? It could be, if it weren't so poorly executed.
After leaving the movie, and expressing my dislike, I was told that the movie was "for boys, and not for girls." If poorly acted, poorly scripted, horribly directed movies with boring and childish humor are for men and not women, then I'm joining a feminist group!
The Sharon Osbourne Show (2003)
Better than the rest!
I cannot stand talk shows. I would rather watch hours of paint drying than ever watch The View. Or, that god-awful show, Good Day Live. But, I've recently come to like Sharon. It's a little shaky because it's new, but hopefully she will get better at it as the show goes on. I like how the show brings out her feminine side. Strong, successful businesswomen who still recognizes her femininity is few and far between. It's very refreshing to see that in Sharon Osbourne.
