Game of Thrones: The Old Gods and the New (2012)
Best episode yet, but a lot of changes too
Right, so this was (together with 'Garden of Bones'), in my opinion, the best episode of the second season. On the other hand, though, this was the one with the most changes, and really a LOT. It was the first time they came up with many new things and changed the story of a book in quite a few places. The outcome will be the same, but the journey towards it has been altered. Now, I expected this, since the producers probably want to leave their own mark as well, and not only copy the books. And I thought the changes were for the better. I have read the books, and don't mind them as long as they improve the story. The execution of Rodrik showed the pressure Theon has when he took Winterfell and how he took drastic decisions (more coming) which doomed him, and made him lose his last shred of honor. The fact that Dany's dragons were stolen will ,probably, lead to her going to the House of the Undying to get them back. Now, Dany's storyline in the 2nd book kind of bored me. This was a welcome change which definitely adds more tension and interest to her storyline. All in all, a great episode, with a few welcome changes which, I repeat, won't change the outcome but, in this case and from my point of view, make the story a bit faster paced, more emotional and better.
Dexter: Ricochet Rabbit (2011)
Disappointing
OK, so this episode seemed rushed and forced. Dumb dialogue, which is usually one of Dexter's strong points, once again no suspense whatsoever. The Matthews case is really not interesting anymore, so he didn't kill her, then what's really left? He'll try to stop Debra from looking into it? Boring. The psychiatrist also doesn't look like she's going towards unveiling Dexter's secret, and Mike Anderson is still only a secondary character. And the thing about wormwood having to be placed in Miami Metro also looked forced. Good things about this episode? Dexter admitting that this is beyond his powers and calling 911. Also finally seeing crazy ass Travis. And Louis. Does he know that Dexter's a serial killer? Maybe he was that disappointed cause he expected Dex to react in another way to his game? We'll see. Now, concerning Travis, the big bad, he's gonna try to get wormwood into Miami Metro. Maybe some characters are gonna be killed off. And Dexter's probably gonna end up killing Travis. Well, a shame to see a promising Season 6 go down like this. Unless something big is waiting for us this Season, with the exception of Brother Sam/Nick and some other stuff was predictable and disappointing...
Dexter: Get Gellar (2011)
If it wasn't for the internet...
... few would have seen this coming. YES, the scenes with Travis and Gellar kind of showed that Gellar wasn't interacting with anyone else, and that no one else ever saw him. But I personally abandoned the theory that he was already dead when (I thought) he tied up that girl Travis slept with in the kitchen. But it turns out Travis was THAT crazy. So Gellar has been dead for a while. It could've been hidden a bit better (but could it really? I found out while reading someone else's theory here). A good twist. The real twist that surprised me in this episode is the fact that Louis had the hand all along. This season has been good up until now, with the exception of Nebraska, which was highly anticipated, presented a good story and a solid twist (Jonah hadn't killed his sister) but badly made, in my opinion. He has sex with that girl in the shop? Shooting while driving on the highway? Unnecessary scenes which were just silly and stupid. However, this season still has a lot to look forward to. Who is Louis? Is he connected to Dex or Brian somehow? Will Debra's psychiatrist help her discover who Dexter really is? AND FINALLY, what is Mike Anderson's purpose? So far he's done NOTHING. At first I thought he might start suspecting Dex, but no sign of that so far. And will Travis try to kill Debra? The crime scene with his sister certainly pointed to that. All in all, since I've never reviewed a Dexter episode here on IMDb, this looks like a good season, refreshing, if it still has to give us more than just Travis for the last 3 episodes. Yes, there have been plot holes, lazy writing, but I still enjoy Dexter. 9/10 for this episode, the best one along with th first one, for me.
28 Days Later... (2002)
Worth it
First of all, one of the things I loved about this film is that it's not a zombie film. Yes, indeed. It's not about people who get bitten, die and somehow, without any explanation, come back to life. They are infected with a blood virus, which contains rage. I also love another thing about this movie, the fact that it shows you that there are worse things to fear than your own death. Like the death of your loved ones, family. This was shown with Frank's death, which I think was masterfully done, one of the best, most touching death scenes ever. The last part of the movie where everyone is basically killed, except for the three main characters was a bit abrupt, in my opinion. Still a great movie, with meaning. It also contains some of my favorite actors, like Brendan Gleeson, Cillian Murphy and Christopher Eccleston. Watch it, it's not a clichéd horror zombie flick, it's a well written drama.
The Shadow Line (2011)
Really good, could have been great
An amazing cast. Chiwetel Ejiofor plays the role of Gabriel perfectly. Eccleston is also a great choice for the man who after Wratten's death is forced to pick up the pieces, even though he never wanted an empire. He also owes a great debt to another man, and has his wife home, who's suffering from Altzheimer's. Stephen Rea and Rafe Spall are AMAZING in their roles. Rea as the mysterious, on a first look harmless, but deadly man who wants to seem friendly, but is under no circumstances to be trusted! Spall as well, as the unpredictable, cruel, disturbed nephew of Harwey who wants to tale over. Rafe delivers an amazing performance, in my opinion.
The Shadow Line is different from your usual cop series. It indeed is, though sometimes it seems like it's trying too hard. On my side there never was any doubt Gabriel was 'evil' and from the moment Gatehouse killed Andy I knew he'd killed Wratten as well. However, emotion is its strength, and it shows you how tough it is to deal with crime etc together with everything you have going on in your personal life. The plot is however, generally unpredictable, the performances are great, the music is beautiful and the whole series creates a nice dark atmosphere. It could be a bit more fast paced so that viewers don't lose interest, but I prefer series who take their time to develop characters as well. All in all a really good drama/cop combination, definitely worth to watch.
