Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
Completely Satisfied
Honestly not understanding the hate on this flick. Not my favorite entry, but still a great one and defiantly a wonderful way to close a story I've been watching my entire life.
The Shasta Triangle (2019)
Great cast with an interesting concept!
The film opens like we're about to embark on a classic X-Files episode mixed with Stargate SG-1 and it delivers on that tone. Some great moments for lovers of indie SciFi films.
The Man in the Trunk (2019)
Highly recommended
Straight up - I wrote and directed this movie. Here are some short production notes that went out with the film that I'll use as my review.
This movie began as a short film written to take place in the Southern California desert under the heat of the sun. It ended up being a feature length film shot in Northwest Arkansas in the dead of Winter reaching temperatures nearing zero degrees on the production's coldest nights causing havoc on both crew and equipment. Scenes designed for open spaces, rocks, and hills were are now dead trees, rugged mountain scapes, and falling snow. When the discussion first began to move production into the dark cold woods, it felt like a betrayal to the story's core concept but in the rear view mirror I can't even imagine the film being done any other way.
In the final days of December 2014, a very small crew piled into a truck pulling a trailer with our equipment and hauled it halfway across the country to meet up with the few talent who graciously flew in interrupting their holiday plans and local crew whom we had come to know over the years and we set out to make a thriller over the next nine days with less than $10k and the gracious support of the local community both in Fayetteville/Winslow, Arkansas and the folks back home.
What never changed from idea to production to years of "labor of love" post-production was the heart of the story which asks the question - How far would you go for an old friend? What would you do when a hard question is put in front of you that is going change your life? Do you look the other way, or do you get in front of it?
The thing I'm most excited about is seeing how audiences interpret that question being asked in the film.
Madness, Farewell (2018)
Comedy? Check. Heart? Check. Awesomely oddball premise? Double check!!!
This darkly comedic off-beat story starring Charlene deGuzman and Benjamin Font, written and directed by the latter, is the perfect mix of sad and heartwarming. Highly recommended. And shout out to the always brilliant Brandon Keener whose character is hilarious:)
The Evil Down the Street (2019)
It will... possess you!!!!! Get it?
In the indie horror film, a family moves into a home with and soon discovers the house has a sordid demonic past. Tensions begin to tear them apart so they enlist the help of fiends, neighbors and a local priest named Father Bob (Loved his introduction - More Father Bob doing pushups please, lol).
They work to uncover the secrets behind the evil within the walls. If you're a fan of Indie Horror - especially focussed on pseudo religious demon possession. Then please check out this out and support independent film!
Stadium Anthems (2018)
A Love Letter to the Music Scene
Through the comedic lens of a fictional aging record company in the age of digital, Stadium Anthems is both a scathing rebuke of longstanding horrible music industry practices while also being an honest love letter to the music scene that struggles to survive throughout the core of it all and ties it all together.
The character arcs in the film are quite beautiful sending many fringe characters whom seem antagonistic on their own journeys bring of sense of life that I really enjoyed.
I highly recommend this Rock 'N' Roll flick from writer/director Scott Douglas Brown and especially love the final scene/lines of the movie which gave me chills.
A Slice of Life on Barcelona (2015)
Punk rock Filmmaking
Lo-Fi but full of life. 'A Slice of Life in Barcelona' follows a series of misfits characters on the fringes slamming in and out of each other's lives and the consequences of their ne'er do well decisions. Not my thing, but filmmaking's an uphill battle and making a coherent feature is an accomplishment in itself so I'm still gonna give it 7 stars:) There's some rough bumps with this first time film but if you're a fan of truly independent cinema than you may enjoy this one!
