Ki & Ka (2016)
8/10
The role of gender and stereotype is explored completely
24 April 2016
Warning: Spoilers
the story of Ki and Ka, brings out the typical mentality of the Indian subcontinent and the idea that is related to gender and economic sustainability. The idea of the movie is completely fresh with the focus being on the husband-wife/a couple's dynamics. The story is based on a man who is in his 20s and comes from a successful background. But, his future goals are quite revolutionary considering the social tradition and expectation of what a man should do. He wants to be a house husband and cook like his mother. And one day he finally finds his perfect match. They get married and the woman starts getting fame and successful in her work. But the twist comes when the man gets attention for being different in place of the woman and some other obvious things stop becoming available to the person who is the bread earner. Ultimately the movie shows the issue is not gender, rather economic freedom and being the head of the family.

The movie will definitely raise a lot of thinking in the mind of sub continental people.

Tamasha (2015)
10/10
resembles subcontinental life and dreams completely
2 December 2015
This is it. As perfect as it gets.

Living the life of others, trying to fit in within the system, keeping up expectations, crying in silence and forced smile on face. Tamasha means joke, fun. And oftentimes when others, aim guns putting on our back, they do not feel the tamasha they do with our lives. Nor do we.

The story is centered around a boy, whose name is 'Ved' the short name of the Hindu holy book, 'Vedpuran'. Ved has tonnes of stories, stories that fuels your imagination.

Ved, is into stories. From Ramayan to Romeo Juliet, Ved can imagine every scene. The only thing he can't imagine is reality. Reality that his father wants to drag him down to. The conflict goes on, until Ved grows up to find himself caged in life's demand, father's wishes and his inability to go for what he wants.

Then suddenly during a vacation, Ved finally gets the chance to be real self, with a girl. His real self, with everything else as fake as they can be (his name, profession etc).

For the rest of the story, you have to see the movie. I rated this movie 10 out of 10, I rate 10 only when I can connect it with myself and when I say, "this is worth watching".

Spectre (I) (2015)
7/10
One of the best 007 movies
21 November 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Spectre brings all together of Daniel Craig's 007 movies. And Craig Proves once again he is the best Bond ever.

James has been losing her girls for the last few movies. Well, not this one. The movie brings some new aspect of Bond on sight. 'Shaken but not Stirred' is maybe for the first time compromised for the sake of a girl. :D

Like many other Bond Movies, this one has it's charm. The Aston Martin DB10 and the Jaguar C-X75 will remain for few months vivid in my mind.

But what made me feel better is that James becomes a normal human, wanting to settle down kind of thing is shown in the movie.

Jessica Jones (2015–2019)
3/10
Fails to entertain with details like Daredevil
21 November 2015
Though started with high expectations, Jessica Jones completely failed to grab the attention that daredevil or Marco Polo achieved. Going to point out some details of it.

the story does not seems compelling. What's been the aim of the villain? To love or to kill or both? and many a times, the scenes jump without any reason. within 14 days, a support group makes drug addict a normal person, the group is created and then broke down within the 14 days. Makes no sense.

Significant lack in details. Prisoner, who just killed parents are still wearing makeups, the guy who does not need to leave, decides to leave and then stay without any explanation, and many more. TO be honest this is one of the worst Netflix I have ever seen.

Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown: Myanmar (2013)
Season 1, Episode 1
8/10
My first look at Myanmar
28 April 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Myanmar! So close, yet so far! A neighbor that we (Bangladeshis) don't know much about. printing media or broadcasting, Myanmar had little priority over other countries. Myanmar had absolute authority till few years back, that obstructed movement in and out of the nation. Anthony Bourdain in his first of many episodes dives deep into Myanmar to taste the exquisite cuisines of Myanmar. The documentary just helped me to make the first item in my bucket list: Visiting Bagan, an ancient temple complex located in the suburb of Myanmar. Now, it is less complicated to visit Myanmar and hopefully when I will travel back home, I will visit Bagan.

Big Hero 6 (2014)

The world of future is shown by big hero 6 like most other animation of recent times.
10 February 2015
The world of future is shown by big hero 6 like most other animation of recent times. It is really a cool movie to watch with family as it has all the elements to be a family movie. I as a animation lover would say the story has a big humane touch. It shows no matter what is the circumstances, we value lives over machine. This would not overtake my all time favorite Wall-e, but definitely is on the list. The main reason this would not make it to the top is the violence. I hope some people will understand that animation has given us a window to show kids how to dream of the future, but if we put violence in there it kind of effects. But then there is Baymax, who at no circumstances would harm a human even though humans may do such. That can be taken as a lesson: We at no cost, should promote violence.

Rudy (1993)
8/10
A mediocre movie with strong message.
3 February 2015
Warning: Spoilers
A mediocre movie with strong message. Reminds me of my lifestory as well. People around us often judge us based on our look, our performance, rather than on potential and ability. They hold us from achieving greater goals. Then there are people who each time face this kind of perception, they become more determined. And Rudy represents the fighting kind. I liked the movie for its simplicity in making. Rudy, the main character does things like an average person, but with heart full of passion. Passion drags him to Notre Dame, a place of his dreams. The movie shows the difference between people who gets and waste opportunities, and those who wait years and years to get one. The movie is based on a true story. I highly recommend this one.

American Life, for Immigrants
27 January 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I learn America. Why? We need to understand first what America is, it is a country of multiculture and multinational. Who is American? Everyone and nobody as everyone can be traced back to some other nationality. The story of this documentary is about kids who came to united states for a better life, for their family and for their life. Why it is interesting to watch for me? Because I just started living here and I feel the words that came out of these children voice. They miss their home, they work hard and they have problems with their documents. Some love to play, some to study further; some face marriage as obstacle, some money, some loneliness. A genuine view of the American Dream of 2nd generation of Immigrants.

A documentary worth receiving Oscar
23 January 2015
Warning: Spoilers
A great idea, put into place. The idea is from 2004, where Zana gave some cameras to kids who lived in the brothel of Calcutta, a state of India. Zana worked there for few years with kids and the women, she found a connection with them for years. The kids took pictures, the pictures were used in the film. I felt shivering looking at those snaps, the surroundings in which they were being brought up. Two person on one bicycle going on the opposite direction of the traffic reminds me of my days in Dhaka. In one of the shot, a shoe is seen right next to a dinner plate, and Avijit (A character) tells this is daily life of them. All of them, wish to leave that life, and start living a new one. But, the documentary shows otherwise. Even though they were given the chance to lead a new life, most did not continue in their path. It shows a important side of for all, that is - you decide your own path, no matter what you are being offered.

Silk (2011–2014)
8/10
Love it
2 January 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I love British films and filmmakers. Its not easy while traveling to watch series as you have lots of things to deal with. But silk and black mirror have kept me awake for last few nights. I am gonna talk about silk here, cause I just finished the first season. I usually fast forward films if they are not that interesting to me. Series on the other hand, are more likely to go down that ally. Silk, fortunately, made me watch every bite. Why? Pure wit. British are stunning me with their makings. Martha Costello played by Maxine Peake, is a perfect British honest lawyer in the series. She portrays present day working woman, with highest esteme. The series in its first season showed how women in a country like England still face obstacles in climbing up the ladder, how they are defined by their gender, vulnerability, family and other discriminating criteria. Martha tries to uphold justice in between personal and professional life conflicts. She is pregnant with child of a colleague who is a charming playboy. Most importantly they are both contenders for silk which gives them freedom to practice, working in the same firm. They both have pupils who make things more complicated. Martha guides audience towards true and just features, shows there are more to which we think as naked truth. As in the fifth episode a judge puts it, "as a prosecutor, you don't win or lose. You just present the facts." I rated the series 8 on IMDb. I would like to encourage all to see it.

Life makes promises that it can't keep, but it gives friends who make your life filled with new promises
4 December 2014
Warning: Spoilers
one of the simplest movies, I have ever watched with deep meaning. It shows why your life can be meaningful, even though you lose faith on family, even though you hate each moment of it. The above summary i wrote, the first part is from the movie, second part i made it up with my learning from the movie.

It shows that learning has no age, one just need a little motivation, a little hope. It also shows the love that often do not come on surface for the people we care the most. Germain thought his mother hated him, but in reality it was opposite.

It also taught me sometimes again. Why I say again?? As my college professor used to say,"Most of us know everything, just that we can't remember all the things we see or learn. So, we often require someone to remind us those." the teaching that I got again: True love and lovers will always find a way, to connect, to share and to care.

The Villain (2014)
7/10
Could have been a lot smoother
29 June 2014
I expected a lot more twist watching the trailer. But still it did not disappoint me. Ritesh Deshmukh was quite the villain, loved his acting. Shraddha Kapoor, is someone I feel I will definitely fall in love if she keeps the way she is portraying the sweet charming, innocent girls. Sidharth is getting momentum in his acting career, getting better and better in each film. Good to see Remo, I wish he had a song in the film. Action was better than average Bollywood movies, realistic except for the scene where Rakesh forces Ayesha out of the window.

Songs are really catchy, the item song added bit flavor as well. A film that I would recommend to watch at least once but not more than once. The reason why I rated the 7 out of 10.

Don Jon (2013)
8/10
A film that tells a lot about now a days Young's
20 April 2014
Don Jon.

I did read a review couple of weeks back and completely forgot about it. Then I sat to watch it. There I had a great feel.

The point that most people frequently talking about is that it's a movie about porn addict. I would beg to differ. I think it's a movie about how people perceive porn and people who watch porn. It also shows the real way of dealing about it.

I feel great watching this movie. It tells the truth about what people want and what people get in sex life. But nobody cares to compromise even a little.

I rate this film 8 because it guides people. It was has it fun part and it shows how normal porn addicts live.

The Bank Job (2008)
7/10
The plot is based on real story which covers the 70's England.
14 September 2013
One of my favorite 'one time see' movies. The plot is based on real story which covers the 70's England. There is suspense but not much action like Jason's other movies. Jason usually does not act in movies which have stories, rather in ones with action. Could not recognize Saffron Burrows at first, but then remembered- played the role of Hector's wife, Andromache in Troy.

I was overwhelmed with the choreography. It perfectly portrayed the 70's London. I have been to London before and the story does make me compare the present and past London.

As I never felt to see it again, but I can still remember the story and casting, I think this movie deserves a 7.

The Newsroom (2012–2014)
9/10
One of the best realistic series I have ever watched.
12 September 2013
One of the best realistic series I have ever watched. It has the perfect newsroom environment. Once I used to be part of print media, and did get a chance to see the television media. It's 100 times more fascinating.

The role played by Jeff Daniels is one of his bests. I only saw his 100 dalmatians. Emily Mortimer on the other is well known in this part of the world for her role in Pink Panther. The character Jim and Maggie creates the perfect chemistry which is often found in medias.

Overall, The entire first season gives me my time in media. The fight to put facts before fiction and also the fight to make it more presentable before rudeness. I rate the series with 9, this one will be one of my favorite series.
